Monadic source/gravitation and synthesis:

Man aims at becoming a Divine Manasaputra, or perfected Son of Mind showing forth all the powers inherent in mind, and thus becoming like unto his monadic source, a Heavenly Man. A Heavenly Man has developed Manas, and is occupied with the problem of becoming a Son of Wisdom, not inherently but in full manifestation.

JC: The task of a heavenly man is to develop Manas to its full manifestation. This then is the goal of the human monad as far as DK here informs us. It is an understatement of great magnitude to say that this goal is enormous and is sufficient to allow our spiritual imagination much for consideration and sets the task ahead of us. We are given here "graded manifestations" of solar/cosmic evolution.

A solar Logos is both a Divine Manasaputra and likewise a Dragon of Wisdom, and His problem concerns itself with the development of the principle of cosmic Will which will make Him what has been called a "Lion of Cosmic Will."

JC: A planetary logos is the "monadic source" for "man" the monad. We will recall that the merging of the human and deva monad serves to function in some centre of such a logos, a heavenly man. Likewise, a solar logos is made up of heavenly men which function in some specific way within the conscious body of the Solar lord. He is developing Cosmic Will; hence he is a "sacred triangle of all inclusive force" as far as his solar system is concerned.

Throughout all these graded manifestations the law holds good, and the lesser is included in the greater. Hence the need for the student to preserve with care a due sense of proportion, a discrimination as to time in evolution, and a just appreciation of the place of each unit within its greater sphere. Having sounded this note of warning we can now proceed with the concluding remarks anent this final question. TCF 306.

JC: A due sense of proportion and scale need be acquired with "just appreciation" of the place of the unit within its greater sphere of containment. The way of Monadic development is the Way of higher evolution and it is higher evolution of the monad which takes place as the source ie the consciousness of the heavenly man is achieved and the mind of god has become a directional and attractive pull to the monad. The monad becomes identified with its own source or way, and we might say origin, undergoing further expanses of monadic consciousness, which in turn will equip for such service as befits the path taken. Not all paths lead this way, but is otherwise known as the "seven fold Path of initiate Evolution". We are told, and we may be sure that of this, "man knows nothing".

The Law of Disintegration:

This is the law that governs the destruction of the form in order that the indwelling life may shine forth in fullness. It is another aspect of the Law of Cohesion - the reverse side (if one might so express it), and is just as much a part of the divine plan as that of attraction. It is one of the laws that ends with the solar system, for the great laws of attraction, cohesion and love last on into that which is to come. The Law of Disintegration has its correspondence in cosmic law, but it is almost incomprehensible to us.

JC: The Law of "disintegration" is as much a part of the divine plan as is the "law of attraction". Disintegration is an aspect [the reverse aspect] of the Law of "Cohesion". This seems to have analogy with attraction and repulsion. Cohesion therefore is an aspect of attraction whilst disintegration is an aspect of repulsion. We must hold in mind that MM informs us that "Wherever the attraction weakens severance results.Inf1 120." and "The principle of attraction is based upon the Cosmic Magnet. The cohesion of parts and their separation are subject to the very same law of attraction and to the principle of cosmic magnetism. Inf1 124.

The Law of Disintegration. On the third plane comes the final casting-off, the ultimate shedding of the sheaths, of the fivefold superman. A Chohan of the sixth Initiation discards all the sheaths beneath the monadic vehicle, from the atmic to the physical. TCF 569.

JC: Again, MM informs us that "Wherever the attraction weakens severance results.Inf1 120." Or, when attraction ends, separation is the results. The attraction in this instance will be for the confining sheath of some level. An instance might be the attraction of the causal body to the "rich young man". When attraction ends the confining body is destroyed under the law of disintegration after long eons of development, attraction and construction. Even so the 4th and 5th degree arhat and adept are still governed by the law of attraction and repulsion as the soul ray is still active. Only at the sixth initiation is the monadic ray truly the sole governing ray.

The Law of Economy holds the key to this law. When the Monad has circled through all disintegrating forms, and has achieved the sixth Initiation, it is resolved into its primal monadic source, and the five lesser sheaths are destroyed.

JC: We are clearly told that after the 6th initiation the monad is then "resolved" into its primal source and the lesser sheaths under the law of disintegration are destroyed. It is of great interest that the law of disintegration "ceases action" on the second cosmic plane. On the third plane ascent is under the law of disintegration of the confining sheaths under the great law of cosmic attraction. The law of "synthesis" begins to take effect as the principle governing the second plane upon which the monad is synthesised and disintegration "ceases action," synthesis is the active law being governed by the central spiritual sun under the first aspect rather than the second aspect of the cosmic magnet or heart of the sun. The systemic "Law of gravitation" is superseded and the cosmic law of synthesis becomes active.

Later on the Monads themselves are synthesized, not disintegrated. This law controls only from the third plane, and ceases action in this particular fashion when the third plane is transcended. TCF 580.

The Law of Gravitation shows itself also in the response of the soul of all things to the greater Soul in which the lesser finds itself. This law, therefore, affects the two lowest forms of divine life, but not the highest. It emanates in the first instance from the physical sun and the heart of the Sun. The final synthesizing forces which might be regarded as forms of spiritual gravitational activity are, nevertheless, not so, but are due to the working of another law, emanating from the central spiritual Sun. The one is purely systemic, the other a cosmic law. TCF 1272.

Instruction is given in what might be termed synthesis. This information is only possible as the intuitional vehicle coordinates. It is really the occult apprehension of the law of gravitation or attraction, (the basic law of this, the second solar system) with all its corollaries. IHS 66.

JC: The Law of synthesis is the "occult apprehension" of the "law of gravitation or attraction, (the basic law of this, the second solar system) with all its corollaries." In other words the synthetic comprehension of all the corollary laws of the "law of attraction" the basic law of this second system, will bring to the student, in time, an understanding and comprehension of the "law of synthesis" and how the first aspect governs and controls the operation and "all the functions" of the second aspect logoic and is the origin and blue print and therefore higher principle to attraction and repulsion.

The Law of Synthesis, the cosmic law governing the tendency to unification. TCF 147.

The spark of Divinity, or God, in us (the Monad) can be so developed by the striving of the heart that it may fuse with the highest fire of space. Then it can reveal by its Light all the accumulated spiritual treasures in us, these very high energies which manifest as majestic Straight-Knowledge. But the degree of this illumination will correspond completely with the accumulations of the Chalice of the individual. LETTERS OF HELENA ROERICH Volume I   Page 440.

JC: We are told by HR that it is the "striving of the heart" that "fuses" the monad with the "highest fires of space". This is synthesis which is the occult apprehension of the law of gravitation, or attraction and repulsion.

Least of all does humanity understand the indissolubility of Karma, whereas this cosmic law is applicable to every manifestation.  Actually, man is not only a monad concluding its evolutionary path; he is a part of the Monad of the Cosmos.  All the monads which are conceived in the one Monad of the Cosmos carry responsibility for the existence of the entire Universe. FIERY WORLD III  1935  Paragraph  312.

JC: MM indicates that karma is a "cosmic law" and applies to "every manifestation" or body of manifestation, man/woman, group, nation or planet. He also informs us that each monad "man" forms part of the cosmic monad or greater Monad. The monad is "god in us" and indeed man is the monad. It is the "striving of the heart" which unites or brings synthesis through cosmic attraction for man with the "highest fires of space". The "cosmic monad" is "responsible" for the Universe in its entirety.

It need not be thought that many can corrupt the value of spirit--so be it.  For we carry the ark of the monad, knowing that by uplifting it the world will be benefited. FIERY WORLD I  (1933) paragraph  202.

JC:  The spirit is incorruptible. The Arhats wield the "ark of the monad" and pronounce its sacred fire with "full affirmation." The sacred power of the cosmic magnet uplifts the world.

The seed of the spirit and the divisibility of spirit provide the explanation regarding the monad.  The seed of the spirit is indispensable to life.  The divisibility of spirit makes possible both the enrichment and the dissipation of the monad. FIERY WORLD I   (1933) paragraph  375.

JC:  The seed of spirit is the monad and is both divisible as the incarnated ego and through the ego does the striving heart enrich the monad with a thousand lifetimes of the treasure of experience. Thus does the chalice become a sacred fire and a fragment of the monad. The degree of illumination of the chalice is in accordance with the lifetimes of striving of the individual.

In rotation, the luminaries attract and enfold the energies in their orbits; hence, the creativeness of the luminaries saturates the Universe.  The quality of the seed of the spirit is established for an entire Manvantara and comprises an essence identical with that of the luminary.  Certainly, the monad is likewise saturated by the luminaries, as it constitutes the seed of the spirit. INFINITY I  1930  Paragraph  328.

JC: The "quality" of the seed of spirit or "cosmic monad" circumscribing the groups of monads is defined by the "rotation" or cycle/s of the luminaries or planetary and constellation combinations and position. This is the law of ancient cycle and relationships under the cosmic law of Karma. It is this which is the science of astrology that directs the course of the planets, stars and the Monads, human, planetary, Solar and Cosmic. The law of karma and of ancient relationships [astrology] govern an entire Manvantara. The science of the seven rays determine the "quality" of the monadic groups and the luminaries, which determine "certain current" and the "ray of birth".

The highest raiment for the monad is attained in pure Fire.  If the monad can be encircled by Fire, it means that it can attain the highest spheres. INFINITY I  1930  Paragraph  354.

JC:  The highest "raiment" or sheath is one of "pure fire" or Agni. Such a sheath or raiment enables attainment of the higher worlds and higher evolution. Thus does man attain "infinity".

Each monad, while gathering its own accumulations or supplies, follows a definite evolutionary course, for the magnetic attraction that lies in the foundation of each vital focus acts with precision.

JC: The Monad follows definite "evolutionary course" according to the karma of a Manvantara under the cosmic law of attraction and repulsion or gravitation, during which it gathers its "accumulations and supplies". MM informs us that "each vital focus" or incarnation via the soul is under the "precision" of magnetic attraction or karma, manifesting an individual with perfect place and position within the scheme of its evolution under the law of return.

Even so is the monad one in its essence, be it embodied in a mineral, plant, animal or man. One must ponder deeply upon the concept of the fundamental Unity in the Cosmos.

JC: As equally described in the secret doctrine and ageless wisdom the Monad evolves and redeems matter through the cycle of evolution and through all the kingdoms in nature. All kingdoms share a fundamental unity throughout. On this we are asked to "ponder deeply".

The Tara states…

Certainly, the Monad corresponds to the idea of spirit. But when it is spoken of as spirituality and the spirit in life, in manifestation, it is always meant as the highest Ego. The Monad, in reality, consists of the sixth principle and of the universal seventh and is not a conscious entity on the planes of manifestation. In order that we reach a conscious manifestation on all planes or in other words, that we reach the real immortality (i.e., become an Arhat, Buddha or Dhyan Chohan), we must unite the three principles, fourth, fifth and seventh, while here on Earth, and fuse them in the sixth principle. The seventh principle is just an eternal vital force, which is spread through the whole of Cosmos. LETTERS OF HELENA ROERICH  Volume I   Page 427.

The definition of the Monad is correct.  Thus, in The Secret Doctrine it is said that, "the Monad or Jiva per se cannot be even called spirit: it is a ray, a breath of the ABSOLUTE, or the Absoluteness rather....having no relations with the conditioned and relative finiteness, [Absoluteness] is unconscious on our plane.
