The time and place given originally is wrong. After I have finished the commentary I have been given a new information of what appears to be more correct time and the place of birth as Venice not Florence. This new information would change the AS to about 2-3 Degree of Cancer and the MC to about 5 Degree of Pisces.

The new chart will not change or affect the conclusions arrived at in this first part of the commentary only the timing of those events related to the angles of the chart.

The new chart will be used in the second part of the DINA II commentary.

JANUARY 1933/DINA I/138,139

To my fellow disciple, F.C.D., who works in that loneliness which is so difficult for the second ray type, I would say the following:[ working in loneliness is indicated in the Neptune/Pluto conjunction placement in the 12^th house ( seclusion/isolation ); isolation/loneliness is a 4^th Ray crisis; Virgo/Pisces are signs of seclusion/isolation; Moon in Virgo, in the 4^th house – very subjective placement and Vulcan in Pisces also tends to extreme isolation ]

Neptune is the esoteric and hierarchical ruler of the AS ( Soul purpose ) and the exoteric ruler of the Sun sign ( Personality ) and Pluto is the esoteric and hierarchical ruler of the MC ( Dharma ) and the Sun sign, thus making this conjunction a very important focus of energies in the chart.

In May 1933 the Solar Arc Mercury was semi-sextile the natal Pluto ( deep/transforming mental work ) and transiting Chiron conjunct the natal Neptune ( esoteric ruler of the AS ) in the 12^th house ( isolation ).

Loneliness and process/test of detachment ( one of his keywords ) is also indicated in the natal Venus/Mars/Saturn T-Square, involving the 2^nd house ( illumination through the evocation of the Will ), 5^th house ( Soul/Will as the creative agent ) and the 8th house ( detachment/death of personality/esoteric psychology )

Venus is the exoteric ruler of the 5^th house,( human/spiritual love ) the exo/eso ruler of the 12^th house ( seclusion/isolation ) and Hierarchical ruler of the 8^th house.

Mars is the exoteric ruler of the 11^th house ( group work/purpose ), esoteric/hierarchical ruler of the 6^th house ( correction/discrimination ).

Saturn is the exo/eso ruler of the 8^th house and the 7^th house ( right human relation ) and hierarchical ruler of the 5^th house.

Saturn is in its detriment in Leo and points ( at his stage upon the Path ) to the lessening of the Soul/Causal body influence/control ( Saturn is the hierarchical ruler of the 5^th house – the Causal body ) and the increase of the Monadic/Triadal control ( Uranus is the hierarchical ruler of Leo ).

Uranus ( singleton in Cardinal sign ) is in mutual exoteric reception with Venus, is in mutual hierarchical reception with Saturn and is related to Mars through its exaltation in Scorpio ( emphasising detachment ).

Uranus is in strong esoteric placement in Libra, in the 5^th house and being also the esoteric ruler of the 5^th house, indicating an original/inventive thought/idea or creative process ahead of time and future vision ( 9^th house – ruled exoterically by Uranus ) and serving a great Ashramic ideal ( 11^th house – ruled hierarchically by Uranus ).

The natal T- Square Venus/Mars/Saturn started to be activated in October 1932 by the progressed Moon entry in Taurus and its opposition of the natal Mars and square the natal Saturn. In the same month the progressed AS was opposition the natal Venus.

In February 1933 the progressed Moon was square the natal Venus and there was Solar Eclipse on the natal MC.

In November 1932 the transiting Saturn entered Aquarius and started to also activate the natal Venus/Mars/Saturn T- Square by square to the natal Mars and opposition the natal Saturn and also quincunx the natal AS and in January 1933 conjunct the natal Venus.

In December 1932 the transiting Saturn was square the progressed Moon, the Solar Arc Saturn semi-square the natal Mars and the progressed AS quincunx the natal MC.

The extremes of isolation/depth of aloneness is experienced when passing through the 4^th initiation and the planet Vulcan is very much involved here, bringing the will to persist in silence throughout that crucifixion experience.

Vulcan in Pisces would bring in the Will-to-Sacrifice/Save/Persist and further emphasise the theme of the isolation related to the 4^th initiation, particularly if Vulcan is placed in the 2^nd decanate of Pisces which is ruled occultly by Vulcan.

The transiting Vulcan was going through Pisces and in February 1933 conjunct the natal MC and activating the Grand Cross Sun/Pluto/Moon/Jupiter.

Your problem is twofold and when it yields to solution then your field of service – [ 6^th house ] already large – will increase.[ Jupiter ]

You have the problem of a devitalised etheric body [ Chiron ( wound ) in Gemini ( etheric body ), in the 12^th house ( chronic weakness ).

Venus, the esoteric dispositor of Chiron, is in Aquarius ( etheric body ) and placed in the 8^th house ( its detriment ) of loss/death. Venus is in opposition to Saturn in Leo ( lowered vitality ).

Uranus ( etheric body ), the exoteric dispositor of Venus, is in the 5^th house ( vitality ) and is quincunx Mercury, the exoteric dispositor of Chiron. This points to the sudden/erratic fluctuation of vitality and disruption of his career/service ( Mercury in the 10^th house ).

and also of a heart [ Jupiter ] attached [ 2^nd Ray ] to many and hence unduly strained and taxed by others. [ T-Square of Sun/Moon/Jupiter ] There are many demands upon your sympathies. [ transiting Neptune conjunct the natal Moon and opposition the natal Sun and the Solar Arc Sun sesqui-quadrate the natal Moon in February 1933 ]

By the time you have reached the age of fifty years [ 1938 ] you should have achieved the difficult undertaking of becoming the sannyasin in the Western world. [ 50 years cycle of Chiron return. Chiron is a Wise One/Master, with no real home – like a Sannyasin. Drawing upon an extensive past experience of pain and suffering, now the wisdom and healing power is available for service but can truly be utilised/understood only after the 2^nd initiation ]

Chiron in Gemini points to a wound in words/speech/relating/etheric body/antahkarana. How to build a bridge between two polarities/realities – such as Soul/Personality, Soul-infused Personality/S. Triad.

Chiron in the 12^th house – healing/redemption of karma, saving/redemptive energy in the hands of a teacher/guide used in service of those who are handicapped/restricted

FCD was able to use the Chiron energies in his work as a teacher and esoteric psychologist through the system of psychosynthesis ( Venus, the esoteric dispositor of Chiron, is placed in the 8^th house ).

The problems of the etheric body will yield to treatment if the suggestions made to C.D.P. are noted ( DINA I/505: imagine the etheric spleen bathed in pure golden prana ) [ Earth ( spleen ) in Virgo ( health ), in the 12^th house ( weakness ) square Jupiter in the 6^th house ( health/diet ) and they are also in mutual esoteric/hierarchical reception; Chiron ( wound ) is related to Virgo through its healing quality and Earth is the hierarchical dispositor of Chiron ] and if the diet ( in your case ) is carefully controlled and regulated…[ Jupiter in the 6^th house ( overindulgence ) square Moon in Virgo and opposition Pluto ( ruler of the 6^th house ); Jupiter trine Saturn ( control )]

CDP had also Jupiter in the 6^th house, opposition Mars ( ruler of the 6^th house ) in the 12^th house and Earth, the esoteric dispositor of Jupiter, in opposition Chiron.

You have necessarily at this stage the vices of your second ray virtues. You suffer from attachment and from a too rapid identification with other people. [ Cancer/Pisces and the exo/eso ruler Neptune in the 12^th house ( psychic sensitivity ) ]

This can be handled if you stand steadfast as a soul and do not focus as a personality in dealing with people – both in your home circle [ 4^th house ] and in your world service.[ 11^th house ] Mercury, the exo/eso ruler of the 4/11 houses, semi-square Venus ( Son of Mind/Soul ). In March/April 1933 the transiting Uranus/Pluto were in T- Square aspect to the progressed Sun and the progressed Mars and in May 1933 the Solar Arc Mercury semisextile the natal Pluto.

Your period of difficulty [ Saturn ] and of loneliness has not lessened for you and you have found it hard to struggle [ Mars ] along. [ the Solar Arc Mars semi-square the natal Saturn; transiting Vulcan conjunct the natal AS; transiting Saturn opposition the S. Arc AS; the progressed Venus in aspect to the Mars/Saturn/AS triangle; transiting Neptune conjunct the natal Moon and opposition Sun. ]

You are coming closer to your Master and in such cases fellow-disciples may not interfere [ DK seems to be infer here that He Himself is a fellow –disciple to FCD who is coming closer to his Master KH and so DK cannot interfere beside giving him this statement. ]

If we are looking for an astrological correlation to this closer approach to Master KH we notice that Jupiter, the hierarchical ruler of the 4^th house ( Ashram ) and also his Soul ruler planet, has entered by Transit the 4^th house in September 1932, joining there the transiting Neptune ( esoteric ruler of the AS and the 4^th house )

Transiting Chiron ( Master ) square the natal MC ( Dharma ) points to a greater influence of the Master in the fulfilment of his Dharma.

You have the persistence and the will ( like tempered steel ) of the second ray and can dismiss all fear as to your capacity to weather the storm and difficulty and to win through.[ This is a curious statement. One of the descriptions of the word “temper” in the English dictionary reads as: “ to bring ( steel ) to a suitable degree of hardness and elasticity or resiliency by heating it to the required temperature and immersing it, while hot, in some liquid, usually cold water.”

Vulcan, the planet of endurance/persistence, is related either to extreme heat or extreme cold, which is part of the tempering process ( like a blacksmith shaping a horse shoe ). Maybe we are being given a hint that Vulcan rules the metal steel.

Vulcan is conditioned on the Soul level by the 1^st Ray ( hammer/shattering/persistence ), by the 4^th Ray ( Monad/Personality? ) as he was the master craftsman, by the 7^th Ray ( Personality/Physical? ) with its rhythmic hammer like stroke, by the 5^th Ray ( Mental? ) as it extracts from matter its full potential and there is even some connection to the 2^nd Ray with the close proximity of Vulcan to the Sun ( could there be a link on the Monadic level through the 2/4 Rays? ) and its relation to the Heart and Heart of the Sun. Heart is related to the Life aspect and Vulcan embodies a basic Spirit/Life pulsation.

Vulcan placement in Pisces ( transmitter of the 2^nd Ray and related to the Heart centre through Neptune ) and the placement of Neptune ( conditioned by 2/4 Rays [Monad/Personality?] and the esoteric ruler of the AS and exoteric ruler of the Sun sign ) in Taurus ( transmitter of the 4^th Ray and where Vulcan is the eso/hierarchical ruler ), establishes strong link between 2/4 Rays which were his Soul/Personality Rays, strengthened by the 1^st Ray ( Vulcan ).

This suggests to me the possibility of 1^st Ray presence, maybe as sub-ray of the Soul Ray. But we know he was on the Path of the World Saviour, on the Love line of the 2^nd Ray; on the other hand it shows that in this particular incarnation he had a lot of 1^st Ray available on the level of the Soul through the placement of Neptune, the esoteric ruler of the AS, in the 12^th house ( Pisces house ), conjunct Pluto ( 1^st Ray planet ) and being placed in Taurus, ruled by Vulcan ( 1^st Ray ); so astrologically the 1^st Ray was very much present/available and it is also possible that the secondary emphasis could have been Atmic.

Your work in my group and your power in relation to your group brothers, consists in your compassionate comprehension. [ 2^nd Ray energy working through the triangle of Venus/Jupiter/Pluto, the rulers of the signs transmitting the 2^nd Ray ( Gemini/Virgo/Pisces ); transiting Chiron ( teacher/guide ) activating this Venus/Jupiter/Pluto triangle ]

Neptune ( compassion ) conjunct Pluto ( rulers/dispositors of the Pisces Sun/Mercury ) indicates a deep compassion and Venus ( exo/eso dispositor of the Neptune/Pluto conjunction ) is sextile to Jupiter ( love-wisdom ), the Soul Ray planet.

You feed their love for each other [ Gemini ] and you act as a focal point for that aspect of the soul which expresses itself in understanding.[ 2^nd Ray ] You can transmit that soul quality.

In December 1933 the progressed Venus entered Aries, the sign of its detriment. This points to the emergence of the power of the Presence/S. Triad/Monad. The Son of Mind ( Venus ) gives place to intuition and reason to pure perception.

In May 1934 the progressed Mercury entered Aries, the sign of its esoteric rulership, giving him the ability to function on the higher mental plane ( that of the Soul ) and become the messenger ( Mercury ) of the light of the Soul and also the sensitivity to the hierarchical plans ( Aries as a place of birth of God’s ideas ).

The ingress of the progressed Mercury/Venus into Aries indicates new ideas/initiative and promotes detachment and focus/polarisation upon the higher levels of the mental plane and achieving the attitude of the Observer and thus learning to stand in spiritual being.

You stand at the verge of a real expansion[ Jupiter ] of your work and for this you must prepare yourself.[In July 1934 the transiting Jupiter conjunct the natal and progressed Uranus and the Solar Arc Mercury sextile the natal MC ]

In August 1934 the T. Jupiter conjunct the progressed Mars and the T. Mars opposition the S. Arc Jupiter.

In September 1934 the S. Arc Pluto sesqui-quadrate the natal MC; the progressed AS trine the natal Jupiter and the progressed Mercury square the natal AS.

The Chiron return to its own place in 1938 might signal a healing process of the etheric force and the entry of T. Uranus into Gemini and its conjunction of Chiron in 1948 points to new re-patterning/rhythm of the etheric body ( Gemini generally can get along on very little sleep ).

More air[ Buddhic plane ] and sun, [ Soul/Monad ] less sleep [ Astral plane ] and fewer human contacts are for you the rule in the future.

The return of the T. …your problems are intimate ones for they concern your home relations[4^th house/Moon ] and your personal, physical health.[ 6^th house ] Jupiter in the 6^th house square Moon in Virgo, in the 4^th house.

The physical weakness has its seat in a constant draining and leakage of the etheric body.[ Venus in Aquarius conjunct the South Node ( draining/things or people leaving or left behind ) ] This keeps you devitalised and hence the emphasis I have sought to lay upon the need for sun and air. There has been for you lately ( as for so many ) a time of testing;[ Scorpio ] yet it has been at the same time a condition of consolidation, [Saturn ] preparatory to the work of building to which I referred in my last instruction. T. Saturn activating the Grand Cross and conjunct the natal MC; both, T. Saturn and T. Uranus in aspect to the natal Mars/Saturn square ( planets of Discipleship testing in relation to Scorpio/Capricorn )

You are predominantly the teacher [ 2^nd Ray ] and have needed to learn ( and still need to do ) three things:

First, you need to acquire that inner, divine detachment[ 8^th house/Scorpio ] which sees life in its true perspective. The contributory factors in terms of detachment are Venus in Aquarius in the 8^th house, in opposition to Saturn in Leo and both square Mars in Scorpio in the 5^th house; Uranus ( in relation to its exaltation in Scorpio ) is in mutual exoteric reception with Venus and now the T. Uranus is square the natal Venus.

The ideal attitude for you is that of the Onlooker who is in no way identified with aught that may happen on the physical and emotional planes, and whose mind is a limpid reflector of truth.[ this indicates the imposition of the Law of Sacrifice through the process of discrimination/detachment/impersonality and mental polarisation and thus standing in spiritual being as the Onlooker/Thinker. You are learning to do this and the next two years will see you making much advance in this matter, but you are only at the beginning of your training.[ the transiting Pluto entered Leo ( strong 1^st Ray placement ) and will be activating the T- Square Venus/Mars/Saturn ]

When you can stand with greater firmness in spiritual being…[ the transiting Saturn is making the last contact by conjunction to the progressed Mercury/Venus in Aries ]

One of the difficult things for humble aspirants to grasp is that peculiar moment in their life history when they must shift into the realm of discriminating[ Virgo ] work.[ the progressed AS semi-sextile the natal Moon in Virgo; the S. Arc Mercury trine the Moon and the S. Arc Pluto semi-square the Moon. It is interesting that the Virgo energy has carried him from the past lives ( Virgo on the IC ), it is a blockage to Soul progress in this life ( Moon in Virgo ) and will remain link of entry for the next life ( he died in Virgo ), thus indicating the great importance of achieving the ability of discrimination. ]

JANUARY 1939/DINA I/155,156

You have no third ray energy in you at all ( the energy of the ray of the intellect ) and this is in spite of the fact of your physical constitution. [ we have dealt with this in the 1937 instruction ]

It accounts for your intense feeling that you have no racial relationship to the Jews at all in spite of the fact that your mental body is on the first ray which is the same as the soul of Judea.[ the Personality Ray of the Jewish race is the 3^rd Ray with the Capricorn Sun ( he has no 3^rd Ray and no planets in Capricorn ) and its Soul Ray is the 1^st Ray with Virgo AS. In some of the unpublished material we are told that FCD did not belong to the Jewish race except through physical heredity ( Moon in Virgo, in the 4^th house ). He has taken a Jewish body but had no Jewish consciousness and did not think or act as the average Jew but he loved them greatly and so he fulfilled all the requirements – from the standpoint of the present life position and we are told, during his next incarnation - to act as the Teacher of the new dispensation of the Jews. We are able to see/understand now more clearly the continuing link through the Virgo energy ( touched on before ) of the past, present and future lives/karma. We will go more into these issues in the second part ( DINA II ) of the commentary. ]

Your soul ray focuses itself in and through your astral body and your personality ray does the same. Hence your problem and hence the facility with which you can relate the soul and personality rays and can carry through their blended energies to the heart centre.[ Jupiter ] The 2^nd Ray Soul and 4^th Ray Personality focus through the 2^nd Ray Astral body as a line of least resistance, carrying the blended energies to the Heart centre ( Jupiter ). If we look for astrological indication of this process we see that the T-Square Jupiter-Pluto-Moon/Earth reflects both, the 2^nd Ray ( Gemini/Virgo/Pisces are ruled by Earth/Jupiter/Pluto hierarchically ) and 4^th Ray ( Scorpio/Sagittarius are ruled by Pluto/Jupiter/Earth through exo/eso rulership. Jupiter ( the Heart centre ) is part of both triangles. Neptune, the other planet related to the Heart centre, conjunct Pluto ( eso/hierarchical rulers of the AS/Sun and thus linking the Soul/Personality. ( in May 1939 the Solar Arc Neptune semi-square the natal Pluto ).

Sun is also connected to the Heart centre, especially being placed in Pisces and is square to Jupiter/Pluto, rulers of Pisces. Jupiter/Pluto is the common aspect to both triangles and thus to the Heart centre.

When looking at the transits/progressions we see that T. Jupiter conjunct the natal Sun and activating the whole Grand Cross ( Sun-Pluto-Moon/Earth-Jupiter ); in April 1939 there was a Solar Eclipse on the progressed Sun; the progressed Mercury semi-sextile the natal Sun; the T. Saturn conjunct the progressed Sun; the progressed Nodes are in aspect to the natal Jupiter and the progressed Moon sesqui-quadrate the natal Jupiter.

The second thing which you need to do is to take these energies of the soul and of the personality, add to them the energy of the heart centre and then learn how to carry all three to the head centre[ Vulcan/Uranus ] and there blend them with the power of your first ray mind. This first ray mental power, you must learn to bring definitely down into the head centre by an act of the creative imagination[ 4^th Ray ] and hold it steadily there…[ we have already seen that the energies implicated in relation to the 1^st Ray Mind were Mercury/Venus/Pluto/Uranus; Uranus sesqui-quadrate Pluto could be related to the Base centre or Base ( Pluto) and Head centre ( Uranus ); Ajna centre ( Mercury/Venus ) is involved in the process of creative imagination; we can be pretty certain that Vulcan is in Pisces but not it exact degree; Sun/Jupiter/Neptune as ruling the Heart centre.

What emerges from these implications are three triangles:

Venus/Mercury/Uranus triangle, where Mercury semi-square Venus and quincunx Uranus and Venus/Uranus are in mutual exoteric reception. This triangle seemed to indicate creative imagination/Ajna ( Mercury/Venus ) in relation to the Head centre ( Uranus ).

Venus/Uranus/Pluto triangle, where Venus trine Pluto, Pluto sesqui-quadrate Uranus and Venus/Uranus are in mutual exoteric reception. This triangle shows the 1^st Ray mental power ( Venus/Pluto ) being brought down to the Head centre ( Uranus ).

Jupiter/Pluto/Uranus triangle, where Pluto is opposition Jupiter and sesqui-quadrate Uranus but there is no aspect between Jupiter/Uranus but Jupiter is the esoteric ruler of the Aquarian decanate of Libra ( the placement of Uranus ). This is the weakest relation of energies as he had to work on uniting the Heart ( Jupiter ) and Head ( Uranus ).

If we wanted to consider the other two planets related to the Heart centre ( Sun/Neptune ) we would have two more triangles:

Uranus/Neptune/Pluto triangle, where Pluto conjunct Neptune and sesqui-quadrate Uranus and Uranus is linked to Neptune through its detriment in Taurus ( the placement of Neptune ).

Sun/Pluto/Uranus triangle, where Pluto is square the Sun and sesqui-quadrate Uranus and Sun is linked to Uranus through its fall in Libra ( the placement of Uranus ).

We see that those triangles which are related/closed by direct aspects indicate relatively easy flow of energies ( depending on the aspects ) or lines of least resistance and those triangles which have one side open or related only through indirect link ( such as rulership/mutual reception or exaltation/fall/detriment ) indicate the next step ahead or problem which need to be worked at in order to bring integration/unity/wholeness.

Uranus as a ruler of the Head centre is implicated only after the 3^rd initiation and it is interesting that Uranus is the only planet in the Cardinal signs ( Libra – Shamballa ).

His problem was also that of balancing ( Libra ) of energies

Life is initiation and for this you are prepared. The crisis in the life of the soul work out along certain lines as major initiations. I am here giving you a hint. For this too you are, as you know, being prepared. [ Life can be equated with Spirit/Monad and is related to the 3^rd initiation. We can read the first sentence that he is already prepared to cope/deal with Life so he has already taken the 3^rd initiation. The major initiations can only imply 3^rd initiation and higher so if we read the first sentence correctly, he is being prepared for the 4^th initiation. ]
