Sagittarius
1.   The Bull   1.   The Centaur, the Archer, the Arrow
2.   Esoteric Mantram: I see, and when the eye is opened, all is illumined.   2.   Esoteric Mantram: I see the goal. I reach the goal and see another.
3.   Exoteric/Evolutionary Mantram: And the Word said: Let struggle be undismayed.   3.   Exoteric/Evolutionary Mantram: And the Word said: Let food be sought.
4.   Quality of Light: The penetrating Light of the Path   4.   Quality of Light: A beam of directed, focused Light
5.   Element: Earth Sign   5.   Element: Fire Sign
6.   Fixed Cross   6.   Mutable or Common Cross
7.   Transmits R4 constellationally   7.   Transmits R4, R5 and R6 constellationally
8.   Secondarily,(assuredly, but not exclusively), Taurus transmits R5 and R1 through Venus and Vulcan—its two planetary rulers on three levels—exoteric, esoteric and hierarchical.   8.   Secondarily, (assuredly, but not exclusively) Sagittarius transmits R2, R3 and R6 through Jupiter, the Earth and Mars—its three planetary rulers on three levels—exoteric, esoteric and hierarchical..
9.   Color: deep blue   9.   Color: rich blue
10.  Creative Hierarchy number III (unmanifested), characterized by “Light thro’ Knowledge”   10.   Creative Hierarchy number VI (manifested), the Lunar Lords, or Sacrificial Fires.
11.  Associated with the de-glamorizing second initiation and the ‘ego-shattering’, shroud-splitting, intuition-invoking (EA 205-206) fourth initiation. The blinding light of the third initiation and the Vulcanian destruction of the first also suggest a Taurean relationship to these degrees. There is, as well, a possible relationship with the revelatory fifth—revelation in the blazing “light of day” (cf. R&I 644)   11.   Associated with the instinct-directing, ‘soul-ward’ orienting, ‘form-abstractive’ first initiation; with the fierily-baptizing, ideal-containing, de-glamorizing, clear-eyed second initiation, and with the direction-choosing, outward-bound, adventuring, nirvanic sixth initiation—the initiation of Decision.

12.   Associated with the form-building throat center and the form-envisioning and registering ajna center. A sacral center connection is also reasonable, as Taurus is one of the major signs of sex, and is related to the tangibility of the physical form—created through the instrumentality of the sacral center. As Vulcan is associated with the “heart of the sun” (the correspondence of which is the heart within the head) Taurus must be correlated, as it must with the solar plexus, because “aspirational idealism in its highest possible expression is also achieved in Taurus” (EA 391), and the solar plexus is the center of aspiration. For completion, fourth ray Taurus, is numerically related to the four-petalled base center and the heart chakra—the fourth!

12.  Sagittarius can be reasonably associated with the insistently driving, aspiring, fiery solar plexus center; with the instinctively-hunting, passion-driven sacral center, and even with the center at the base of the spine, where the latent fire (Mars) awaits its rising; Earth (with its first ray Monad and a symbol identical to the fourfold structure of the base center) is the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius, connecting it to that lowest center.  The personality-directing, clear-seeing, force controlling ajna center should also be influenced strongly by Sagittarius, at a relatively high point in the evolutionary process.

13.  The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Taurus endows it with a portion of the “Greatest Light” which is resident within Shamballa—the place of unfettered enlightenment. Taurus endows the Monad with its inherent omniscience relative to the human energy system   13.  The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Sagittarius guides the Monad on its descent into material immersion, and, again, through an inherently flawless sense of direction, guides the Monad upon its path of return. Sagittarius contributes to the conviction of “monadic destiny”, and destination.
14.  Within the Triad—Taurus is associated principally with buddhi as it bestows wisdom  and the “clear cold  light” of pure reason which is resonant to the “Greatest Light” of the monad. There is some association with atma as well, because Taurus and Vulcan are resonant to and expressive of Shamballa.   14.   Within the Triad—Sagittarius is focused in both buddhi and higher manas—the abstract mind. Sagittarius transmits the fourth ray, which relates to the fourth, or buddhic,  plane and the principle of  buddhi.  Sagittarius is one of the intuitive signs. (EA 177) In Sagittarius, intuition (fourth ray, second principle) governs aspiration (sixth ray—which Sagittarius also transmits) (cf. EA 178) Sagittarius is at once philosophical (utilizing the abstract mind) and intuitive. The blend of buddhi and higher manas may be called “universal or spiritual mind” which Sagittarius expresses in relation to Mercury. (EA 369)
15.  In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and causal body) through which it expresses—Taurus governs the causal body considered as a ‘treasury of transpersonal quality’ garnered from personal experience in the three lower worlds. Taurus is associated with soul-light and, through Vulcan, with the Jewel in the Lotus and the light emanating from that Jewel.   15.   In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and causal body) through which it expresses—Sagittarius can be seen as the will of the Solar Angel to inspire its personality to a state of aspiration through the presentation of an elevating vision of future spiritual possibilities. As well, when the personality errs (as oft it does), Sagittarius represents the ‘guiding beam of light’ which offers a secure sense of spiritual direction—directing, at length, to the mountain of initiation.
16.  Within the Personality—Taurus can be identified with the luminosity and determination of the mental nature, for Taurus facilitates the state called the “mind held stead in the light”; with the strong desires, passions, incentives, aspirations of the astral nature; with the pranic vitality of the etheric nature; and, often, with the tamasic inertia of the dense physical nature. Taurus is especially related to the astral vehicle. (cf. EA 92, 380) (The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)   16.   Within the Personality—Sagittarius can be identified with the directing, thought-projecting power of the lower mental nature and its eventual responsiveness to intuitive guidance; with the passional and eventual aspirational processes of the astral nature; with the vibrancy and buoyancy of the etheric nature; and with the general tendency to energetic activity of the dense physical nature. Sagittarius is particularly associated with the integrated, one-pointed, disciplic personality.(The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)
17.  Stage within a Preliminary Fourfold Meditative Process: Magnetization   17.  Stage of Meditative Consciousness: Inspiration. “Sagittarius—Inspiration—Preparation for initiation. Soul inspires personality life. Soul expresses itself through personality. The Initiate.” (EA 229)
18.  The Choice of Values (Desires)   18.  The Choice of Direction

Wider Relationships: Cosmic and Systemic

Taurus
In Comparison With
Sagittarius
1.   Expressive of the third aspect of divinity because of its identification with light, but of the second aspect through association with the principles of consciousness and of wisdom. The first aspect is distributed through its ruling planet Vulcan.   1.   Expressive principally of the third aspect of divinity because it is the third fire sign. “From Aries comes cosmic fire; from Sagittarius comes planetary fire; and from Leo comes solar fire; and each of these fires ‘clears the way by burning’ for the expression of the three divine aspects: spirit (Aries), soul (Leo) and body (Sagittarius).” (EA 293) Expressive of the second or consciousness aspect, through its majority of soft-line constellation and planetary rays.
2.   Cosmically, preeminently associated with the Pleiades. “…he constellation Taurus, the Bull, being found in the Pleiades.” (EA 111) “Aquarius relates humanity to the Pleiades and therefore to Taurus in an unusual manner.” (EA 200) “There is at this time, owing to the influx of the Shamballa force, the establishing of a peculiar relation or alignment between the constellation, Taurus (with its own specific alignment with the Pleiades and Great Bear) the planet, Pluto, and our Earth.” (EA 376) “A new light enters in. The Seven Sisters play their part (the Pleiades are in Taurus, the first sign of the Fixed Cross) and then three lights shine forth. And thus one radiant sun appears.” (EA 562)   2.   Definite cosmic association with the Pleiades and probably with the Little Bear (particularly Polaris—the Pole Star).  “Pleiades—Gemini/Sagittarius—Mercury” (EA 50) “GeminiSagittariusMercury (which are an expression of the Pleiades) enable the Probationary Disciple to pass on to the Path of Accepted Discipleship.” “…The Pointers; these point to the Pole star which is at this time a major ‘star of direction’.” (EA 195) It should be noted that Sagittarius is a major sign of direction. If Leo and Aries rule the two Pointers, then the third fire sign, Sagittarius, should be connected with Polaris. Also, Sirius, Gemini and Sagittarius probably formed a triangle at the time of man’s individualization. (cf. EA 355) Sagittarius and Betelgeuse are related to the third cosmic path: “Source— Betelgeuse, via the sign Sagittarius.” (EA 1257)
3.   Three Constellations Connected with Taurus: a) Orion—the Hunter; b) Eridanus—“The River of the Judge”; c) Auriga—the Charioteer (LOH 47-48)   3.   Three Constellations Connected with Sagittarius: a) Lyra—the Seven Stringed Harp; b) Ara—the Altar; c) Draco—the Serpent of Wisdom (LOH 166-167)

Taurus
In Comparison With
Sagittarius
1.   The Moon is exalted in Taurus.
1.   Sagittarius rules the Creative Hierarchy of Lunar Lords.
2.   Earth has an especially close relation to the constellation Taurus. (EA 383)   2.   Earth is the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius.
3.   Mars is in detriment in Taurus.   3.   Mars is the hierarchical ruler of Sagittarius.

Subtle Relationships Between Rays, Zodiacal and Planetary Energies

Subtle Relationships Between Rays,
Zodiacal and Planetary Energies

Taurus
In Comparison With
Sagittarius
1.   Taurus transmits the fourth ray constellationally. In Comparison With 2.   Sagittarius transmits the fourth ray constellationally. Further,  Sagittarius is the fourth sign of the zodiac upon the clockwise wheel, numbering from Pisces. (cf. also EA 357) Earth has a close relationship to the fourth ray through its planetary order (fourth from the Sun if Vulcan is counted) and its symbol. (the fourfold, even-armed cross within a circle). Mars, the “God of War” must be related to the lower aspect of the fourth ray—that which produces the conflict which precedes harmony.
2.   Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac, and has, therefore, numerical affinity with the number two, and with the second ray. If numbering is begun with Pisces (which the Tibetan demonstrates as possible), then Taurus is the eleventh sign on the clockwise wheel, hence resonant with the second ray.   3.   Jupiter, the exoteric ruler of Sagittarius, transmits the second ray, most probably through its soul. Earth, the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius, transmits the second ray through its second ray soul (EA 619).
3.   Taurus, the twelfth sign on the clockwise wheel, is numerologically resonant to the number three, and, hence, to the third ray. Further, counting by polarities (Aries-Libra-Taurus-Scorpio-Gemini-etc.), Taurus is third in order, hence resonant to the third ray. Further, within the three “cosmic decanates”, Taurus, Scorpio, Pisces—Taurus is associated with the Buddha and the “light”, and obviously upholds a connection with the third ray—Scorpio being related to the first, and Pisces to the second. (cf. EA 204, 487).   4.   Sagittarius is the ninth sign of the zodiac on the reversed wheel. Nine is the number of the number three. The third ray has a 900 year cycle. (EPI 348-349). The Earth, esoteric ruler of Sagittarius, transmits the third ray as its personality ray. Mars serves as the astral body to a third ray Entity.
4.   Venus is the exoteric ruler of Taurus and transmits the fifth ray.   4.   Sagittarius transmits the fifth ray constellationally. Further, Sagittarius is the fifth sign on the clock-wise wheel and hence, has numerical affinity with the fifth ray. Mars, the hierarchical ruler, has strong fifth ray relations, through its orange color and its connection to science and the five senses.
5.   Venus is “pure love-wisdom” and, therefore, can be seen as transmitting the second ray (probably as the personality ray) (cf. EA 281) (TCF 369)“…the second ray is the ray at present of the planetary Logos” (DINA II 210)   5.   See #2 above.
6.   Venus is the “home of the planetary Logos of the sixth Ray” (EA 595) thus transmits the sixth ray, probably monadically, just as Uranus, with its first ray Monad, is the “home of fire electric” (TCF 1154)   6.   Sagittarius transmits the sixth ray constellationally—with especial strength. Numbering the signs by polarities (Aries-Libra, Taurus-Scorpio, etc.), Sagittarius is the sixth in order, giving it numerical affinity with the sixth ray. Jupiter, the exoteric ruler, has possible sixth ray associations through enthusiasm and the “worship” aspect of ritual  Mars, the hierarchical ruler, transmits the sixth ray.
7.   Vulcan, the esoteric and hierarchical ruler of Taurus, transmits the first ray.   7.   Earth, the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius, transmits the first ray monadically. (EA 619)  Mars (and its School) are expressive of the first ray. (TCF 1179)
8.   Vulcan is associated with the “heart of the sun” (EA 393) and, hence, with the second ray.   8.   See #2 above.
9.   Vulcan may be involved in the direct transmission the fourth ray (DN 91—depending upon how this citation is understood), and, in any case, is connected strongly to the fourth kingdom (whether human or mineral, depending on the mode of counting); the fourth scheme (the Earth Scheme); and the fourth initiation within the Human Kingdom.   9.   See #1 above.
10.   Vulcan, “the synthesis of matter” (TCF 597) is ruler of the mineral kingdom, and, as the “fashioner”, is closely associated with the concretizing forces of the fifth ray. (R&I 597)   10.   See #4 above.
11.   Vulcan has resonance with the seventh ray through the principle of rhythm.   11.   Jupiter, the exoteric ruler, transmits the seventh ray through “ritualistic worship” (EA 648, 660)
12.   The Moon, exalted in Taurus, is a veil for the transmission of the fourth ray.   12.   See #1 above.
13.   The Moon, exalted in Taurus, is closely associated with the third ray and the third aspect of divinity.   13.   See #3 above.
14.   The Moon, exalted in Taurus, is closely connected to the third ray. (EA 280)   14.   See #3 above.
15.   The Moon also is related to the seventh ray, through its (the Moon’s) rulership of the seventh manifested Creative Hierarchy, and, in general, through its association with the dense physical plane—the lowest part of the seventh plane.   15.   See #11 above.

Similarities and Points of Cooperation Between the Influences

 Similarities and Points of Cooperation
Between the Zodiacal Influences
of Taurus & Sagittarius

Both have vision.  At first sight these would seem to be signs which are profoundly different in their nature and in many respects they are.

However,  note the special relationship existing between Taurus and Sagittarius explained by the phrase, "Taurus rushes blindly until Sagittarius directs." Every archer, Sagittarius needs the Bulls eye, Taurus with which to aim.

Both of these signs  are closely connected with the concept of sight and vision. They are consequently both related to the Ajna centre which is both an illuminative and directing centre.

The integrated personality achieved with the full development of the Ajna centre is a personality capable of directing itself forward according to its own will. The qualities of both Taurus and Sagittarius can therefore be seen active. Sagittarius is the visionary and the Ajna centre is the centre which bestows vision.

Both Taurus and Sagittarius can produce the seer, or philosopher. The  philosophical synthesis sought by the higher type of Sagittarian is related to the opening of the wisdom eye, the eye of Shiva with its synthetic vision. Both the signs are strongly related to the energy of aspiration.

At a fairly advanced stage of human development, Taurus rules the light of aspiration and Sagittarius, associated as it is with that creative hierarchy known as the lunar lords and having a hierarchical rulership by Mars, is likewise connected with the upward orientation of the desire nature or aspiration. Although in the early days Taurus is inert and slow moving, once it gathers momentum it moves rapidly as does the advanced Sagittarian once he has overcome the tendency towards changeable and erratic paths.

Both signs are related to what the Tibetan has called the "level table land.", Taurus to the plains and Sagittarius to rapid travel upon those plains in search of the mountain of initiation.

Taken together, a great steadying of the perceptual gaze will result from the combined influences of these two signs. The achieved vision will be true and illumined but these are signs related to the earth as well. There has always been a special relationship between the earth and the sign Taurus, one of the earthiest of signs and the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius is likewise the earth.

Both of these signs have a great appreciation for the natural life and for the beauties of nature. Both bring in the fourth ray.  Both are united in body consciousness. Interestingly they both share the 4th ray of struggle and beauty although Sagittarius likewise distributes the 5th and the 6th and is therefore very active in relation to humanity during this world period.

Taurus relates very much to the physical body as well as to the desire nature and Sagittarius does so likewise. The so-called wisdom of the body is something much appreciated by the Sagittarian. Let it be remembered whereas the first fire sign Aries rules monad, Leo rules the soul and Sagittarius rules the body. The Taurean, always close to nature, likewise appreciates the wisdom of the body.

Actually the wisdom of the body is the state of the etheric body and the response of the various energies flowing through that etheric body to various contacts in the 3 worlds and above.

Taurus, let it be remembered, relates to prana and hence to the vitality which courses through the etheric body and the polarity Gemini/Sagittarius to the structure and mobility of the etheric body itself, the movement of currents within the etheric body. Both of these signs are known for their pursuit of wisdom.

The wisdom pursued by the Taurean is more practical in nature. That pursued by the Sagittarian, more philosophical and takes in a wider range of thought—yet both are lovers of wisdom.

Interestingly, the eye of Shiva is called the wisdom eye—this is the eye of the seer with which both of these signs are so closely connected. The interest in philosophy also extends to an interest in ethics—again practical ethical behavior is stressed by the Taurean and high-minded ethics arrived at through cross-cultural comparison are stressed by the Sagittarian.

Both share a refusal to be moved: DN 86 re Sag. Refusal to be moved.

Both share initial strong desire orientation—followed by quest for mentality

Both of these signs are connected with two major points of orientation. Taurus with the star Alcyone around which our solar system revolves and Sagittarius with the center of the galaxy around which our entire cosmic atom revolves.

In the early days of evolution, both of these signs maybe blind and misguided. Taurus will be blinded by instincts and Sagittarius by narrow, fanatical, overly intense desire. As a result there may be much blundering forward and running towards useless goals. The natives of neither sign managed to hit the target. But eventually certainty of sight is achieved in both signs.

Interestingly the 3rd eye opens through the stimulation of the pituitary and pineal glands. This eye is only stimulated when the forces of the body are dedicated to higher purposes—which is a Taurean dynamic and when the aspiration is consistently directed towards lofty aims—Sagittarian dynamic.

So it can be seen that right aspiration, right values under ethics will stimulate the opening of the eye of vision so closely associated with these signs. Taurus learns to refuse the lure of lower desire and Sagittarius aims towards lofty things. The result is that the transforming fire can rise and stimulate those etheric and physical organs within the brain which confer higher sight—heights of psychism can therefore be achieved in both signs.

Both signs are intimately related to food. Taurus is magnetized towards food for earthly gratification and also for the accumulation of pranic wealth. Sagittarius is ever the hunter and in order to sustain the body the hunt must proceed. Therefore the evolutionary mantram of Sagittarius is, "Let food be thought."

Let it be remembered that the earth related to both Taurus and Sagittarius is the symbol of the etheric body and the earthly pranas which sustain that body. In this way both Taurus and Sagittarius are related to guaranteeing the survival of the human organism, each seeking vitality in different ways.

Taurus also seeks that vitality through agriculture and Sagittarius through the domestication of animals which can be used for food. This is a later stage following upon the hunting stage.
