In Comparison With
Capricorn
1.   Esoteric Mantram: I recognise my other self, and in the waning of that self, I grow and glow.   1.   Esoteric Mantram: Lost am I in light supernal, yet on that light I turn my back.
2.   Exoteric/Evolutionary Mantram: And the Word said: Let instability do its work.   2.   Exoteric/Evolutionary Mantram: And the Word said: Let ambition rule and the door stand wide.

6.   Transmits R2 constellationally   6.   Transmits R1, R3 and R7 constellationally
7.   Secondarily, (assuredly, but not exclusively), transmits R4, R5 and R3 through Mercury, Venus and the Earth—its three planetary rulers on three levels—exoteric, esoteric and hierarchical.   7.   Secondarily, (assuredly, but not exclusively) Capricorn transmits R3 and R5 through Saturn and Venus—its two planetary rulers on three levels—exoteric, esoteric and hierarchical.
8.   Color: yellow   8.   Color: green
9.   Creative Hierarchy number IV (unmanifested), characterized by the “Desire for Duality”   9.   Creative Hierarchy number V (manifested) and X of 12. Human Personality; the Crocodiles; Makara the Mystery
10.   Associated with the establishing of relationship between Father, Mother and Child at the first initiation (cf. EA 388); the clarifying, mind-illumining second initiation (EA 157, GWP 271); the crucifying, illusion-renouncing fourth (EA 472); and the resurrecting seventh initiations (the second ray initiation of fulfilled Love-Wisdom). (cf. R&I 88-89)   10.   Associated with the first five initiations: the soul/Self-revealing, soul-law-imposing, Christ-birthing first; the emotion-controlling, ‘un-capsized’, ‘water-crossing’ second; the soul-illumined, personality-transfiguring, three-aspect-synthesizing third; the isolation-inducing, world-renouncing fourth; and the supernally-lighted, mountain-peak-revelatory fifth. Saturn (ruling Capricorn) does not follow a man onto the Cardinal Cross.
11.   Gemini (the third sign) can be associated with the thought-configuring, articulating throat center under the third ray; also with the duality-resolving, unifying heart center, and with the manipulating/blessing centers in the palms. Dualistic Gemini (ruled by oscillatory Mercury) can also be associated with the dualistic, decision-making, polarity-integrating ajna center, and with the system-uniting “kundalini” at the base of the spine. “Mercury demonstrates kundalini in intelligent activity” (EA 181)   11.   Capricorn can be reasonably associated with the clear-seeing, forcefully-penetrating, powerfully directing ajna and brow centers, and the ‘dominating’, all-controlling crown center. Capricorn must be connected to the magically materializing throat and sacral centres via the third and seventh rays (resonant to both centers). The humility-inducing centers at the knees are also indicated. Also associated with Capricorn are the central “jewels” in all the chakras.
12.   The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Gemini makes it possible for the “Brother” who is the “prodigal son” to go forth into a “far country” (as the Monad-in-substantial-immersion), and yet, remain ‘at home’ within the Father’s House as the “elder Brother” Who did not go forth (i.e., as the Monad undiminished upon its own level of consciousness). Thus is the Monad “in the world yet not of the world”. Gemini endows the Monad with its all-pervasive omnipresence relative to the human energy system. “Having pervaded the entire Universe with a fragment of myself, I remain.”   12.   The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Capricorn causes the Monad (even in immersion) to be guided by Shamballic and Logoic Law. There are lines which the Monad may not cross as it ‘super-vises’ its own Self-extension. It must leave its fragment ‘free within limits’; free-will (of a relative kind) must not be violated. The initiatory power, flowing through Monad from Capricorn, endows the Monad-in-extension with the power to face every obstacle and re-ascend to its source. This re-ascent is initiation.
13.   Within the Triad—Gemini, the third sign, is related to higher manas (the third aspect of the Triad). Higher manas formulates into abstract thought the revelations of the ‘idea-patterns’ to be found upon the buddhic plane. Gemini, as its dualistic symbol reveals, is also related to the divine love, pure reason and intuitive revelations of buddhi, the second aspect of the Spiritual Triad.   13.  Within the Triad—Capricorn is most associated with atma (first triadal aspect) and higher manas (third triadal aspect). Capricorn transmits the first ray which relates it to the will and law emanating from the atmic plane. Capricorn transmits the third ray, as well, which relates it not only to higher manas but, again, to atma, for the atmic plane is the third systemic plane, and is a plane of both law/will and mind—the atmic mind—God’s mind as directly expressive of God’s will/law. Capricorn is less related to buddhi, though it is the sign admitting (via hierarchical Venus) into the buddhic dimension known as Hierarchy.
14.   In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and causal body) through which it expresses—Gemini can be seen as governing the pulsations of Solar-Angelic thought and vitality which rhythmically stimulate the personality. Gemini can be associated with the attempt the Solar Angel to communicate with and instruct the personality.   14.  In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and causal body) through which it expresses—Capricorn can be understood as the will of the Solar Angel to master its personality, through total soul-infusion leading to transfiguration and subsequent crucifixion. Karmic confrontation with residual darkness is enforced from ‘above’, and the power to transcend matter bestowed. The will aspect of the Solar Angel is strongly asserted, leaving the responsive personality no choice but elevation. (cf. EP II 174)
15.   Within the Personality—Gemini can be identified with the flexible associative processes and informational receptivity of the lower mental nature, which becomes, eventually, especially responsive to the antahkarana; with the bi-polar fluctuations of the astral nature, vacillating conflicted between the pairs of opposites (EA 362); in general, with the etheric nature and its network of interplaying vital-electric currents and with the sprightliness and rejuvenation of the dense physical  nature. Gemini is especially related to the etheric vehicle. (EA 352) (The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)   15.   Within the Personality—Capricorn can be identified with the concretizing, regulatory and disciplining processes of the lower mental nature; with processes which focus, control and deepen the astral nature; with organizational and co-ordinative processes within the etheric vehicle; and the with maintenance and survival of the dense physical vehicle—of which Capricorn represents the density. (The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)
16.   Stage within a Preliminary Fourfold Meditative Process: Vitalization   16.   Stage of Meditative Consciousness: Initiation
17.   The Crisis of Renunciation characterized by the quality of Crucifixion   17.   The Crisis of Initiation characterized by the quality of Expansion.

Gemini
In Comparison With
Capricorn
1.   Expressive, principally, of the second or Love aspect of divinity. (EA 351) “It is the constellation Gemini and its inherent second ray influence which control every one of the pairs of opposites in the Great Wheel.” (EA 346) Gemini, ‘Lord of Intelligence’, is also closely linked by numerical affinity to the third or Intelligence aspect. “…Gemini is the third sign and embodies what is called ‘a third potency’…” (EA 355) “Ray 3.—Active Intelligence, under the influence of this third sign, Gemini, slowly conditioning the etheric body.” (EA 357)   1.   Expressive primarily of the first and third aspects of divinity. “CAPRICORN. This is the constellation by means of which comes the conquering will which releases from form life and initiates the man into the kingdom wherein the will aspect (not the soul aspect) of divinity expresses itself.” (EA 620) Capricorn is the major transmitter of the seventh ray which is related to the first aspect. “The seventh ray is, in the last analysis, the focussed differentiated energy of Ray One as it expresses the will of the first aspect of divinity on earth…” (EA 138) “the third and fifth rays work pre-eminently through this sign, embodying the third major aspect of divinity, active intelligence plus that of its subsidiary power, the fifth Ray of Mind.” (EA 164)
2.   Cosmically associated with Sirius. “1. Gemini—forms a point of entrance for cosmic energy from Sirius.” (EA 349) Sirius and Gemini are both related to Masonry. (cf. EA 350) Sirius and Gemini were active together in the individualization process. (cf. EA 355) Gemini is also associated with the Pleiades. “Gemini—Sagittarius—Mercury (which are an expression of the Pleiades) enable the Probationary Disciple to pass on to the Path of Accepted Discipleship.” (EA 466)   2.   Related cosmically to the Pleiades. “…from these three (The Pleiades, Capricorn, Mercury. A.A.B.) Man takes a nature which is his today. Son of the Mother, born from the tomb and showing after birth the light which he has taken from them all.” (EA 433, also 427-428) Capricorn is necessarily related to the Great Bear because, like Aries, and Leo, it transmits the first ray. (cf. EA 417) Capricorn, the “great sign of initiation” (EA 173) is almost certainly related to Sirius, “the great star of initiation.” (EA 197) Venus completes a triangle.
3.   Three Constellations Connected with Gemini: a) Lepus—the Hare; b) Canis Minor—the Lesser Dog (including Procyon) c) Canis Major—the Greater Dog (including Sirius) (LOH 68-70)   3.   Three Constellations Connected with Capricorn: a) Sagitta—the Arrow; b) Aquila—the Eagle; c) Delphinus—the Dolphin (LOH 175-176)

Subtle Relationships Between Rays, Zodiacal and Planetary Energies

Subtle Relationships Between Rays,
Zodiacal and Planetary Energies

Gemini
In Comparison With
Capricorn
1.   Gemini transmits the second ray constellationally   1.   Venus, the hierarchial ruler of Capricorn, is “pure love-wisdom”, and hence, transmits the second ray. (EA 281)
2.   Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac on the reversed wheel, and therefore, has numerical affinity with the number three and with the third ray “Ray 3.—Active Intelligence, under the influence of this third sign, Gemini, slowly conditioning the etheric body.” (EA 357)“The fact that Gemini is the third sign and embodies what is called ‘a third potency’ enabled it to reach, with its force, the third kingdom and produce that reaction which resulted in the individualising or the humanising of its higher forms of life.” (EA 355)   2.   Capricorn transmits the third ray, constellationally. In addition, Capricorn is the third sign of the zodiac on the clockwise wheel, beginning number with Pisces. This numerical fact reinforces the relationship of Capricorn to the third ray. Saturn is the exoteric and hierarchical ruler of Capricorn and transmits the third ray monadically (EPI 421), and, probably, through its soul. Mars, exalted in Capricorn, participates as the astral body in the constitution of a great third ray Entity (EPII 99).
3.   Gemini is the eleventh sign of the zodiac on the clockwise wheel and, therefore, has numerical affinity with the number two and with the second ray.   3.   See #1 above.
4.   Gemini is also the fifth sign in the series of sign if one proceeds by polarities (Aries-Libra, Taurus-Scorpio, Gemini-etc.) Thus, Gemini, from this perspective, has numerical resonance with the fifth ray.

4.   Capricorn may, in some subtle matter, transmits the fifth ray (independently of its hierarchial ruler Venus). Ray 5.—Concrete Knowledge or Science, under the influence of Capricorn, focussed through Venus, which will enable the man to take initiation.” (EA 357) Also, “Capricorn is an earth sign and because the third and fifth rays work pre-eminently through this sign, embodying the third major aspect of divinity, active intelligence plus that of its subsidiary power, the fifth Ray of Mind. These pour through Capricorn to Saturn and to Venus and so reach our planet, the Earth.” (EA 164) Note the word, “through.” Venus, of course, is the hierarchical ruler of Capricorn, and transmits the fifth ray. Saturn is associated with the concrete mind (concretion pertains to the fifth ray). Mars, exalted in Capricorn, rules “science” and the “five senses) (EA 215) and, therefore, is related to the fifth ray, transmitting it, conceivably, through its Monad.

5.   Gemini is the tenth sign of the zodiac on the clockwise wheel, IF one begins numbering from Pisces (as the Tibetan does in relation to Leo) This indicates a resonance with the first ray, though there is, otherwise, little first ray to be found within this sign, proper.   5.   Capricorn transmits the first ray, constellationally. Capricorn is also the tenth sign on the reversed wheel, hence numerologically associated with the number one and, by numerical affinity, with the first ray. Saturn, the exoteric and esoteric ruler, is a strong transmitter of the first ray. (EA 450, 621). Mars, exalted in Capricorn, teaches “those whose work lies along the lines of the destroyer”, hence must transmit the first ray. (TCF 1179)
6.   Mercury is the exoteric ruler of Gemini and transmits the fourth ray. As well, the constellation Gemini is associated with the fourth ray. Ray 4.—Harmony through Conflict, under the influence of Gemini-Sagittarius, staging those situations upon the astral plane which will produce the conflict in the astral body which is essential to the final treading of the burning ground and subsequent release.”  (EA 357)   6.   Capricorn is the fourth sign of the zodiac on the clock-wise wheel—hence, resonant with the fourth ray (especially through its rulership over ‘for-m’ and establishment). Venus, the hierarchical ruler of Capricorn, may have some higher fourth ray associations—harmony and beauty. Mars (exalted in Capricorn) is a major planet of conflict, so it is difficult not to think that Mars has some strong fourth ray association—perhaps within its personality vehicles. “The theme of that ray is “Harmony through Conflict” and it is the lower aspect of the ray energy, producing conflict which has hitherto controlled, and is climaxing now through the impetus of the new incoming Shamballa force.” (EA 328)
7.   Mercury is closely associated with the third ray, and probably transmits this ray as its personality ray.   7.   See #2 above.
8.   Mercury has a close relation to the fifth ray, through its relation to the fifth scheme, the fifth round, the fifth race and sub-race. “The fifth race is born under Mercury.” (EA 663)   8.   See #4 above.
9.   Venus, the esoteric ruler of Gemini, transmits the fifth ray.   9.   See #4 above.
10.   Venus is “pure love-wisdom” and, therefore, can be seen as transmitting the second ray (probably as the personality ray) (cf. EA 281) “…the second ray is the ray at present of the planetary Logos” (DINA II 210)   10.   See #1 above.
11.   Venus is the “home of the planetary Logos of the sixth Ray” (EA 595) thus transmits the sixth ray, probably monadically, just as Uranus, with its first ray Monad, is the “home of fire electric” (TCF 1154)   11.   Venus, the hierarchical ruler of Capricorn, transmits the sixth ray, probably monadically. (EA 595). Mars (exalted in Capricorn) transmits the sixth ray
12.   The Earth is the hierarchical ruler of Gemini and transmits the third ray, its personality ray. “…it was necessary to call attention to this great determining factor, the third ray, which is the personality ray of our planetary Logos.” (EP I 338) (cf. EA 619)   12.   See #2 above.
13.   The Earth transmits the second ray, its soul ray. “It [the first ray] is the monadic ray of our planetary Logos, Whose Soul ray is the second and the personality ray the third.” (EA 619)   13.   See #1 above.
14.   The Earth transmits (however weakly) the first ray—its monadic ray. (cf. EA 619)   14.   See #5 above.
15.   There are no strong seventh ray transmissions through Gemini, proper. Jupiter and Saturn, which have a special relation to this sign (one demonstrating the fusion of Spirit and soul, and the other the confrontation with the Dweller) both have seventh ray components.   15.   Capricorn transmits the seventh ray constellationally. Saturn has strong seventh ray associations through that fact that it is the “logoic physical permanent atom” in relation to the cosmic physical plane (TCF 406), hence strongly involved in the manifestation of the cosmic physical plane. As well, Vulcan is powerful in Capricorn (third decanate) and transmits the first ray.

Similarities and Points of Cooperation Between the Influences

 Similarities and Points of Cooperation
Between the Zodiacal Influences

Both have a direct relationship to intelligence. Capricorn can be considered related to the concrete mind just as Gemini can. Gemini rules the learning potential of the concrete mind and Capricorn, the concrete mind as an agent for constructive thought-form building and an agent of the will. Both of these signs are related  to intelligence.

We have discussed the ways in which the 3rd ray pours through Gemini and Capricorn is a strongly 3rd ray sign, not only from the point of view of the ray that pours through the constellation but the rulership of Saturn, both exoterically and esoterically brings in the 3rd ray, hence this does relate the two to intelligence. Neither sign is especially emotional and a degree of detachment, due to intellectual focus is possible for both although Capricorn never gives a strictly intellectual focus, there always being the necessity of some practical action.

The signs are bound together through the esoteric rulership by Venus of Gemini and the hierarchical rulership of Capricorn by Venus. This means that both signs are signs of mental illumination, although the illumination that results from soul infusion is occurring at an earlier stage with respect to Gemini and at a later, more climatic stage at the transfiguration initiation when Venus at last represents the illumined synthesis of soul and personality. For Gemini, Venus represents the drawing together of soul and personality and the effect upon the concrete mind of the soul’s illumination.

There is also a strong connection between these 2 signs with regard to the solar angels. Gemini very much rules the intelligence of the angels, that intelligence going a long way towards forming the human personality.

Capricorn is a sign ruling a particular hierarchy -  it rules Makara and the title is given, ‘The human personality.”  The 5th creative hierarchy is dual and it must be remembered that the solar angel is an initiate of all degrees and Capricorn has much to do with the hierarchy of solar angels which originated in part from the planet Venus.

Both Gemini and Capricorn, with their strong ultimate identification, with the soul illumination of the mind, are much associated with the calming of the astral waters and detachment from the astral waters.

Gemini an air sign, gives a certain dryness to the character and an ability to detach from the emotions. Capricorn is known as the one who crosses the waters and from the relative safety and elevation of the mountain-top the waters can no longer threaten. In addition,

Capricorn being an earth sign and being ruled principally by hard-line planets, the emotional nature is much subdued.

Perhaps there is even more emotion in Gemini since Gemini correlates with the pairs of opposites and the astral plane is the plane whereupon the pairs of opposites are equilibrized. (vs: note that Gemini Kumara, the liberated life, is on the 6th subplane of the cosmic astral, with the energy 'desire for duality'.)

With both of these signs there is a strong connection with both the ajna center and the throat center. The ajna center because Gemini connects with its duality and its decision-making mode and with the 2 petals, each of which represents one of the pairs of opposites which Gemini also represents. Capricorn, like Sagittarius only more so, connects with the synthesis aspect of the ajna centre.

Capricorn could be considered related to the integrated personality which is often integrated along the line of will just as it is in Leo and with the purpose of fulfilling some needed function or role in society.

It is interesting that the functions of the ajna center are magnified in Capricorn and become very definite powers which are represented by the unicorn’s horn and just as in Sagittarius, in relation to Gemini, both the signs Gemini and Capricorn, are related to the principle of sight – naturally enough at the ajna center.

Gemini, the sight of the object as seen from the perspective of the subject so that there is the subject/object dualism and Capricorn the sight from the mountain top.

Both too, are related to the Divine Plan – Gemini to the flexible intelligence required in the adaptation and execution of the Divine Plan and Capricorn with the well-formulated, though intelligent outline of the Divine Plan which must be executed wilfully and in a well-timed manner.

Gemini’s connection wit h the throat center is clear as Geminians can produce some of the  most verbal people. Capricorn with its powerful 3rd ray and Saturnian rulership, Saturn being associated with the throat center in disciples, is also associated with the throat center. The throat center here will be seen as the agent for the Divine Plan and the throat center will build those forms which the abstract mind, the mind of God needs to have built if the Plan is manifested.
