Important Foundational Relationships

Gemini
In Comparison With
Scorpio
1.   Esoteric Mantram: I recognise my other self, and in the waning of that self, I grow and glow.   1.   Esoteric Mantram: Warrior I am, and from the battle I emerge triumphant.
2.   Exoteric/Evolutionary Mantram: And the Word said: Let instability do its work.   2.   Exoteric/Evolutionary Mantram: And the Word said: Let Maya flourish and deception rule.
3.   Quality of Light: The Light of Interplay.   3.   Quality of Light: The Light of Day
4.   Element: Air sign   4.   Element: Water Sign
5.   The Mutable or Common Cross   5.   Fixed Cross
6.   Transmits R2 constellationally   6.   Transmits R4 constellationally. Possibly R1 is a subtle constellational transmission.
7.   Secondarily, (assuredly, but not exclusively), transmits R4, R5 and R3 through Mercury, Venus and the Earth—its three planetary rulers on three levels—exoteric, esoteric and hierarchical.   7.   Secondarily, (assuredly, but not exclusively) Scorpio transmits R6, R1 and R4 through Mars, Pluto and Mercury—its three planetary rulers on three levels—exoteric, esoteric and hierarchical.
8.   Color: yellow   8.   Color: crimson, dark red. Black is important.
9.   Creative Hierarchy number IV (unmanifested), characterized by the “Desire for Duality”   9.   Creative Hierarchy number IX (manifested), the Human Hierarchy, the “Initiates”
10.   Associated with the establishing of relationship between Father, Mother and Child at the first initiation (cf. EA 388); the clarifying, mind-illumining second initiation (EA 157, GWP 271); the crucifying, illusion-renouncing fourth (EA 472); and the resurrecting seventh initiations (the second ray initiation of fulfilled Love-Wisdom). (cf. R&I 88-89)   10.  Associated with the body-transmuting, appetite-regulating, first initiation; the purifying, emotion-transforming, desire-subduing second initiation; and the mind-transfiguring, personality-conquering third initiation. Scorpio prepares “the disciple for the first, second and third initiations. After the third initiation, its peculiar testing potency is no longer felt.” (EA 199) Even so, the fourth degree is ruled by the fourth ray, and bring buddhi powerfully into the life, as does fourth-ray Scorpio, powerfully resonant to the buddhic plane.
11.   Gemini (the third sign) can be associated with the thought-configuring, articulating throat center under the third ray; also with the duality-resolving, unifying heart center, and with the manipulating/blessing centers in the palms. Dualistic Gemini (ruled by oscillatory Mercury) can also be associated with the dualistic, decision-making, polarity-integrating ajna center, and with the system-uniting “kundalini” at the base of the spine. “Mercury demonstrates kundalini in intelligent activity” (EA 181)   11.  Scorpio is correlated principally to the three sub-diaphragmatic centers, sub-ruled by Mars and Pluto: to the attracting and repelling, desiring, aspiring, solar plexus center; to the instinctually insistent, sexually-unitive sacral center; to the system-empowering, hindrance-destroying, will-impelling center at the base of the spine. Because the ajna center is ruled by fourth ray Mercury (from a point in time near the third initiation and following), and because Mercury is the hierarchical ruler of fourth ray Scorpio, Scorpio can be reasonably associated as an influence upon the drama of contrasting polarities staged in relation to the ajna center.
12.   The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Gemini makes it possible for the “Brother” who is the “prodigal son” to go forth into a “far country” (as the Monad-in-substantial-immersion), and yet, remain ‘at home’ within the Father’s House as the “elder Brother” Who did not go forth (i.e., as the Monad undiminished upon its own level of consciousness). Thus is the Monad “in the world yet not of the world”. Gemini endows the Monad with its all-pervasive omnipresence relative to the human energy system. “Having pervaded the entire Universe with a fragment of myself, I remain.”   12.   The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Scorpio is potent indeed, because the entire fourth manifested Creative Hierarchy (the Hierarchy of Human Monads) is ruled by Scorpio. Scorpio guarantees that the Monad will not remain trapped in immersion, but will conquer its apparent captor (lower matter), and, thus, achieve its proper function in relation to the buddhic plane as the mediating kingdom between the three higher and three lower manifested Creative Hierarchies.
13.   Within the Triad—Gemini, the third sign, is related to higher manas (the third aspect of the Triad). Higher manas formulates into abstract thought the revelations of the ‘idea-patterns’ to be found upon the buddhic plane. Gemini, as its dualistic symbol reveals, is also related to the divine love, pure reason and intuitive revelations of buddhi, the second aspect of the Spiritual Triad.   13.   In relation to the Triad—Scorpio (the sign in which that great exemplar of the first ray, Hercules, achieved his triumph) must be understood as having an influence  upon the first aspect of the Triad—atma, the spiritual will. Scorpio (esoterically during this world period) may well transmit the first ray. In Scorpio, the threefold Illusion is conquered, and, buddhi (the intuition) is the conqueror. Buddhi rules upon the fourth plane, and Scorpio transmits the fourth ray constellationally. Scorpio seems less related to higher manas, though it is a triple sign.
14.   In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and causal body) through which it expresses—Gemini can be seen as governing the pulsations of Solar-Angelic thought and vitality which rhythmically stimulate the personality. Gemini can be associated with the attempt the Solar Angel to communicate with and instruct the personality.   14.   In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and causal body) through which it expresses—Scorpio can be understood as the will of the Solar Angel to drastically purify its personality, when that personality has, at length, demonstrated its readiness for the process. Under Virgo, the personality has been consistently improved; under Scorpio, the Solar Angel (“a most efficient surgeon”—(DINA I 232)) reveals all obstruction to soul-infusion, and (with the help of its now desperate personality) sees to the removal of such obstruction.
15.   Within the Personality—Gemini can be identified with the flexible associative processes and informational receptivity of the lower mental nature, which becomes, eventually, especially responsive to the antahkarana; with the bi-polar fluctuations of the astral nature, vacillating conflicted between the pairs of opposites (EA 362); in general, with the etheric nature and its network of interplaying vital-electric currents and with the sprightliness and rejuvenation of the dense physical  nature. Gemini is especially related to the etheric vehicle. (EA 352) (The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)   15.   Within the Personality—Scorpio can be identified with the penetrative and controlling (EA 180) processes of the lower mental nature; with the intensely purgative and emotionally transformational processes of the astral nature; with the general power of the etheric nature (though emotional/mental battles can be devitalizing); and with the fortitude, hardiness and staying-power of the dense physical nature. (The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)
16.   Within the Triad—associated with Manas (higher mind) and the spiritual love, intuition and pure reason of Buddhi   16.   Within the Triad—most associated with Buddhi, where shines the light of intuition dispelling illusion. Some connection with the Atmic aspect is also likely, as Scorpio carries a subtle first ray potency.
17.   Stage within a Preliminary Fourfold Meditative Process: Vitalization   17.  Stage of Meditative Consciousness: Illumination. “Scorpio—Illumination—The soul triumphs. Experience in Taurus consummated. Astral glamour dissipated. Soul light pours in. The Path of Discipleship. The Disciple.” (EA 228-229)
18.   The Crisis of Renunciation characterized by the quality of Crucifixion   18.  The Crisis of the Battlefield, characterized by the process/quality of Conflict.

Gemini
In Comparison With
Scorpio
1.   Expressive, principally, of the second or Love aspect of divinity. (EA 351) “It is the constellation Gemini and its inherent second ray influence which control every one of the pairs of opposites in the Great Wheel.” (EA 346) Gemini, ‘Lord of Intelligence’, is also closely linked by numerical affinity to the third or Intelligence aspect. “…Gemini is the third sign and embodies what is called ‘a third potency’…” (EA 355) “Ray 3.—Active Intelligence, under the influence of this third sign, Gemini, slowly conditioning the etheric body.” (EA 357)   1.   Expressive of the first aspect as it seeks to transmute the third aspect so that the second aspect may emerge—“triumphant”.
2.   Cosmically associated with Sirius. “Gemini—forms a point of entrance for cosmic energy from Sirius.” (EA 349) Sirius and Gemini are both related to Masonry. (cf. EA 350) Sirius and Gemini were active together in the individualization process. (cf. EA 355) Gemini is also associated with the Pleiades. “Gemini—Sagittarius—Mercury (which are an expression of the Pleiades) enable the Probationary Disciple to pass on to the Path of Accepted Discipleship.” (EA 466)   2.   Cosmically, associated primarily with Sirius. “Scorpio is under the influence or inflowing energy of Sirius. This is the great star of initiation because our Hierarchy (an expression of the second aspect of divinity) is under the supervision or spiritual magnetic control of the Hierarchy of Sirius.” (EA 197) Initiation (Sirius) is transformation (Scorpio) “Scorpio is the great constellation which influences the turning point both in the life of humanity and the life of the individual human being. For the first time in the history of both mankind and disciples the energy of Sirius, pouring into the seven groups which form our planetary Hierarchy evokes a response.” (EA 198) “We come now to another triangle, the activity of which produces the manifestation of Hierarchy—the intermediary between Shamballa and Humanity: Scorpio, Sirius and Mars.”(EA 483)
3.   Three Constellations Connected with Gemini: a) Lepus—the Hare; b) Canis Minor—the Lesser Dog (including Procyon) c) Canis Major—the Greater Dog (including Sirius) (LOH 68-70)   3.   Three Constellations Connected with Scorpio: a) Serpens—the Serpent of Illusion; b) Ophiuchus—the Serpent Handler or Wrestler; c) Hercules—the Sun God/Hero (LOH 153-154)

Subtle Relationships Between Rays, Zodiacal and Planetary Energies

Subtle Relationships Between Rays,
Zodiacal and Planetary Energies

Gemini
In Comparison With
Scorpio
1.   Gemini transmits the second ray constellationally   1.   Uranus (exalted in Scorpio) is in line with a great second ray transmission of force from Sirius, and is also one of three planets (Uranus, Jupiter and Venus) which probably participate in the expression of a great second ray Entity (EPII 99)
2.   Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac on the reversed wheel, and therefore, has numerical affinity with the number three and with the third ray “Ray 3.—Active Intelligence, under the influence of this third sign, Gemini, slowly conditioning the etheric body.” (EA 357)“The fact that Gemini is the third sign and embodies what is called ‘a third potency’ enabled it to reach, with its force, the third kingdom and produce that reaction which resulted in the individualising or the humanising of its higher forms of life.” (EA 355)   2.   Scorpio (like Virgo) is a triple sign, hence related to the third aspect (which it conquers) and to the third ray. Mars participates in the expression of a great third ray Entity (EPII 99); Pluto is related to the third ray through stealth and stratagem; Mercury is strongly related to the third ray and may well transmit it via the personality. (EA 280) Uranus, exalted in Scorpio, expresses the third ray. (EA 138, 200)
3.   Gemini is the eleventh sign of the zodiac on the clockwise wheel and, therefore, has numerical affinity with the number two and with the second ray.   3.   See #1 above.
4.   Gemini is the fifth sign of the zodiac if one numbers in polarities (Aries-Libra-Taurus-Scorpio-Gemini-etc.)  This indicates a resonance with the fifth ray.   4.   Scorpio is the fifth  sign of the zodiac on the clockwise wheel—numbering from Pisces as one.  This gives Scorpio numerical affinity with the fifth ray.. Mars expresses the fifth ray in its relation to science and the five senses. (EA 215) Uranus has strong fifth ray associations through “exoteric science.” (EA 149)
5.   Gemini is the tenth sign of the zodiac on the clockwise wheel, IF one begins numbering from Pisces (as the Tibetan does in relation to Leo) This indicates a resonance with the first ray, though there is, otherwise, little first ray to be found within this sign, proper.   5.   Scorpio (as its close connection with Hercules implies) is strongly related to the first ray as a constellation as a cosmic decanate. (cf. EA 204,  486-487). This first ray association may emerge more definitely in a future world period.  Mars, the exoteric and esoteric ruler of Scorpio, transmits the first ray, because its “School” trains “those whose work is along the lines of the destroyer.” (TCF 1179). It is the first ray which is the Ray of the Destroyer. Pluto, a special ruler in Scorpio, is the “Lord of Death” and transmits the first ray. Uranus, exalted in Scorpio, is the “home of fire electric” and transmits the first ray, almost certainly monadically. (TCF 1154)
6.   Mercury is the exoteric ruler of Gemini and transmits the fourth ray. As well, the constellation Gemini is associated with the fourth ray. Ray 4.—Harmony through Conflict, under the influence of Gemini-Sagittarius, staging those situations upon the astral plane which will produce the conflict in the astral body which is essential to the final treading of the burning ground and subsequent release.”  (EA 357)   6.   Scorpio transmits the fourth ray, constellationally. Counting by polarities (Aries-Libra-Scorpio-Taurus-etc., ), Scorpio is the fourth sign, hence resonant with the fourth ray. Mercury, the hierarchical ruler of Scorpio, transmits the fourth ray. Mars also seems to be associated with the lower part of the fourth ray—the conflict side. (Note the frequent Mars/Mercury associations, as, for instance, related to kundalini.
7.   Mercury is closely associated with the third ray, and probably transmits this ray as its personality ray.   7.   See #2 above.
8.   Mercury has a close relation to the fifth ray, through its relation to the fifth scheme, the fifth round, the fifth race and sub-race. “The fifth race is born under Mercury.” (EA 663)   8.   See #4 above.
9.   Venus, the esoteric ruler of Gemini, transmits the fifth ray.   9.   See #4 above.
10.   Venus is “pure love-wisdom” and, therefore, can be seen as transmitting the second ray (probably as the personality ray) (cf. EA 281) “…the second ray is the ray at present of the planetary Logos” (DINA II 210)   10.   See #1 above.
11.   Venus is the “home of the planetary Logos of the sixth Ray” (EA 595) thus transmits the sixth ray, probably monadically, just as Uranus, with its first ray Monad, is the “home of fire electric” (TCF 1154)   11.   Scorpio is the sixth sign of the zodiac on the ordinary (clock-wise) wheel, and hence has numerical affinity with the sixth ray. Mars, the exoteric and esoteric ruler,  transmits the sixth ray. Pluto, special ruler, has solar plexus associations (EA 78), hence, sixth ray associations.
12.   The Earth is the hierarchical ruler of Gemini and transmits the third ray, its personality ray. “…it was necessary to call attention to this great determining factor, the third ray, which is the personality ray of our planetary Logos.” (EP I 338) (cf. EA 619)   12.   See #2 above.
13.   The Earth transmits the second ray, its soul ray. “It [the first ray] is the monadic ray of our planetary Logos, Whose Soul ray is the second and the personality ray the third.” (EA 619)   13.   See #1 above.
14.   The Earth transmits (however weakly) the first ray—its monadic ray. (cf. EA 619)   14.   See #5 above.
15.   There are no strong seventh ray transmissions through Gemini, proper. Jupiter and Saturn, which have a special relation to this sign (one demonstrating the fusion of Spirit and soul, and the other the confrontation with the Dweller) both have seventh ray components.   15.   Uranus, exalted in Scorpio, transmits the seventh ray

Similarities and Points of Cooperation Between the Influences

 Similarities and Points of Cooperation
Between Gemini & Scorpio

At first glance these signs seem very different and deal with entirely different aspects of the human constitution but strangely are associated with relationship between dualities and although there is probably more conflict in the sign Scorpio since it is ruled by Mars and Mercury, Mercury being considered the star of conflict, still the Mercurial rulership of Gemini the inescapable duality of this sign also lends it to the alternation and vacillation which can be interpreted as conflict because the two brothers, Castor and Pollux, the Personality and the Soul, are indeed at war and there is friction and stress between them though the war becomes truly lethal in Scorpio when in the contest the soul must prevail.

Both signs are related to the web of illusion for Gemini with its Mercury rulership, is very much the trickster and can prevaricate, evade and deceive through its acute and nimble intelligence. Scorpio too, is related to web-weaving, for the spider under Scorpio weaves its web of evolution and the evolutionary Mantram of Scorpio is, “Let maya flourish and deception rule.”

Both can lead away from the light, although Gemini is more given to mental illusion and in Scorpio the illusion as it applies to the astral plane.

Scorpio, although it is an intensely emotional sign, is a sign in which acute and discerning intellect is developed to help with the process of de-glamorization and this is also true of astute intellectual Gemini.

Both also are intuitive signs, Scorpio especially, once the revelatory power of Mercury has begun its work. Gemini is involved with the building of the Antahkarana and with the exchange of substances from above and below.

Openness to this exchange is an aspect of the intuition and Scorpio calls upon this same Mercurial intuition to shed light into the battlefield of glamor and illusion which tends to ensnare the aspirant at a certain stage of development.

Both signs can be known for their wit and their ability to create repartee though there will always be more bite in the Scorpionic rejoinder and perhaps more hilarity in the Geminian wit.

Both signs are active wherever dualities must be resolved and this means that they may well have a special place in association with the second initiation for the pairs of opposites are brought into relation via Gemini and must be balanced upon the astral plane and there is much Scorpionic struggle between these pairs of opposites at the 2nd initiation.

Both signs have a strong relationship to Hierarchy. With Gemini, Hierarchy becomes a great informing and teaching body and with Scorpio, a warrior body which aids struggling humanity.

Certainly in both signs, the relation between the pairs of opposites is intense and well-defined and the experience of duality, either under the 2nd ray or the 4th ray is, pronounced for in Scorpio the battle between the higher self and the lower self rages unabated and in Gemini, the awareness of the other self is sharp and distinct.

They also can be found related at the 4th initiation when a definite relationship must be established between the spiritual triad and the personality via the antahkarana, by passing the middle principle or the soul, the egoic lotus which must be destroyed. This fits the dynamics of Gemini very well for with Gemini the antahkarana is completed and communication between the trans-personality or spiritual triad, or lower triad or personality, is rendered direct and unobstructed. Scorpio, the destroyer associated with the rising of the kundalini power, can also be seen as active at the time of total detachment from all personality issues.

The total death of the personality and sometimes the little death of the personality under Scorpio is found at this 4th initiation and its 4th ray, makes its affinity between this sign and this initiation complete.  So here is the triumph not only of the soul over the personality but of the spiritual aspect of man, the monad and the spiritual triad over the personality and here Scorpio becomes the enemy of the sun or solar angel, ruled in a sense by Leo and Scorpio here is in square to Leo, is the enemy of the sustainment of the middle principle which must be put to death. Interestingly these signs are both associated with the kundalini which can be seen as very active at the time of the 4th initiation for the fires of matter are instrumental in destroying the middle vehicle.

Gemini is ever associated with health as is Virgo and with the vitality especially. The caduceus represents the weaving of the kundalini power into a number of figure eights up the spine and Mercury the ruler of Gemini, rules kundalini acting (?) Mars the ruler of Scorpio, rules kundalini latent and the serpent power is always associated with the dark mother, Scorpio.

(Incidentally the 8th sign and thus related to the figure 8 which relates the dualities). The antahkarana itself is connected with the figure 8 and this links Gemini, the major sign indicating the building of the antahkarana to the figure 8.

Missing or Weak Links

Missing or Weak Links Between Gemini and Scorpio

The seventh ray is, at best, weakly represented in transmissions from Gemini and its associated planets. The second ray is weakly represented  in the Scorpio group.
