Important Foundational Relationships

Virgo
In Comparison With
Scorpio
1.   The Virgin   1.   The Scorpion, The Eagle
2.   Esoteric Mantrams: I am the Mother and the Child, I, God, I matter am. Christ in you, the hope of glory.   2.   Esoteric Mantram: Warrior I am, and from the battle I emerge triumphant.
3.   Exoteric/Evolutionary Mantram: And the Word said: Let matter reign.   3.   Exoteric/Evolutionary Mantram: And the Word said: Let Maya flourish and deception rule.
4.   Quality of Light: The blended dual Light.   4.   Quality of Light: The Light of Day
5.   Element: Earth Sign   5.   Element: Water Sign
6.   Mutable or Common Cross   6.   Fixed Cross
7.   Transmits R2 and R6 constellationally.   7.   Transmits R4 constellationally. Possibly R1 is a subtle constellational transmission.
8.   Secondarily, (assuredly, but not exclusively) Virgo transmits R4, R4, R6, R1, and R2 through Mercury, the Moon, the veiled Neptune, the veiled Vulcan, and, also, Jupiter—all these are its planetary rulers on three levels—exoteric, esoteric and hierarchical.   8.   Secondarily, (assuredly, but not exclusively) Scorpio transmits R6, R1 and R4 through Mars, Pluto and Mercury—its three planetary rulers on three levels—exoteric, esoteric and hierarchical.
9.   Color: yellow (Mercury rulership). Blue-green is an additional reasonable possibility.   9.   Color: crimson, dark red. Black is important.
10.   Creative Hierarchy number II (manifested) and VII of 12. Divine Builders conferring Soul; the Burning Sons of Desire   10.   Creative Hierarchy number IX (manifested), the Human Hierarchy, the “Initiates”
11.   Associated with the stages immediately preceding the ‘birthing’, form-regulating first initiation (EA 67, 471); then, with the cleansing, purifying second initiations, and possibly with the decisive, Monad-establishing sixth (introduction to true monadic living)   11.   Associated with the body-transmuting, appetite-regulating, first initiation; the purifying, emotion-transforming, desire-subduing second initiation; and the mind-transfiguring, personality-conquering third initiation. Scorpio prepares “the disciple for the first, second and third initiations. After the third initiation, its peculiar testing potency is no longer felt.” (EA 199) Even so, the fourth degree is ruled by the fourth ray, and bring buddhi powerfully into the life, as does fourth-ray Scorpio, powerfully resonant to the buddhic plane.

12.   Virgo can be reasonably understood as influencing, particularly, the cherishing, patient, maternally-loving heart center (through the second ray), and the persistently devoted solar plexus center (through the sixth). In addition to its influence upon a number of smaller, sub-diaphragmatic centers associated with the solar plexus, Virgo must have an influence upon the ajna center—as an organ of discrimination and discernment. The mysteries of generation are ruled by the Moon, which rules Virgo esoterically; a sacral center association is, thereby, reasonable. The six of the sacral center leads to the twelve of the heart.

  12.   Scorpio is correlated principally to the three sub-diaphragmatic centers, sub-ruled by Mars and Pluto: to the attracting and repelling, desiring, aspiring, solar plexus center; to the instinctually insistent, sexually-unitive sacral center; to the system-empowering, hindrance-destroying, will-impelling center at the base of the spine. Because the ajna center is ruled by fourth ray Mercury (from a point in time near the third initiation and following), and because Mercury is the hierarchical ruler of fourth ray Scorpio, Scorpio can be reasonably associated as an influence upon the drama of contrasting polarities staged in relation to the ajna center.
13.   The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Virgo is powerful in monadic life because the second manifested Creative Hierarchy (Who are the “prototypes of the Monads”—TCF 1197) are ruled by Virgo and its hierarchical ruler, Jupiter. One motivation of the descending Monad is the perfection of matter (in this case, the substance of the first solar system). With this mission, Virgo is intimately concerned.   13.   The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Scorpio is potent indeed, because the entire fourth manifested Creative Hierarchy (the Hierarchy of Human Monads) is ruled by Scorpio. Scorpio guarantees that the Monad will not remain trapped in immersion, but will conquer its apparent captor (lower matter), and, thus, achieve its proper function in relation to the buddhic plane as the mediating kingdom between the three higher and three lower manifested Creative Hierarchies.
14.   Within the Triad—Virgo ( esoterically ruled in part by Neptune, and hierarchically by second ray Jupiter, and transmitting, itself, the second ray), is related primarily to buddhi (the second aspect of the Triad), bestowing as it does the second ray and a higher correspondence to “mother love”—a divine, maternal compassion. Virgo is also associated with the third ray, and the third divine aspect, and hence, even if indirectly, with higher manas, the third triadal aspect.   14.   In relation to the Triad—Scorpio (the sign in which that great exemplar of the first ray, Hercules, achieved his triumph) must be understood as having an influence  upon the first aspect of the Triad—atma, the spiritual will. Scorpio (esoterically during this world period) may well transmit the first ray. In Scorpio, the threefold Illusion is conquered, and, buddhi (the intuition) is the conqueror. Buddhi rules upon the fourth plane, and Scorpio transmits the fourth ray constellationally. Scorpio seems less related to higher manas, though it is a triple sign.
15.   In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and causal body) through which it expresses—Virgo, like Cancer, can be seen in the ‘mother’ role—with Virgo providing a nurturing and discriminatively cleansing energy, utilized by the Solar Angel to improve the quality of its personality manifestation. Virgo, as the Solar Angel expresses it, is the will to manifest love intelligently through matter, until the Christ energy pours successfully through the personality-form and a relative perfection is reached.   15.   In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and causal body) through which it expresses—Scorpio can be understood as the will of the Solar Angel to drastically purify its personality, when that personality has, at length, demonstrated its readiness for the process. Under Virgo, the personality has been consistently improved; under Scorpio, the Solar Angel (“a most efficient surgeon”—(DINA I 232)) reveals all obstruction to soul-infusion, and (with the help of its now desperate personality) sees to the removal of such obstruction.
16.   Within the Personality—Virgo can be identified with the discriminative, analytical, and selective processes of the lower mental nature; with the cleansing and purification of the astral nature; with the magnetic purity of the etheric nature; with the general health and nutrition and of the dense physical vehicle. Virgo, via the Moon, is particularly related to the dense physical vehicle and to all personality substance as a whole. (EA 194) (The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)   16.   Within the Personality—Scorpio can be identified with the penetrative and controlling (EA 180) processes of the lower mental nature; with the intensely purgative and emotionally transformational processes of the astral nature; with the general power of the etheric nature (though emotional/mental battles can be devitalizing); and with the fortitude, hardiness and staying-power of the dense physical nature. (The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)
17.   Stage of Meditative Consciousness: Contemplation. Libra—Contemplation—Life of soul and form is balanced. Neither dominates. Equilibrium. An interlude wherein the soul organises itself for battle and the personality waits. This is the probationary path. Duality known.” (EA 228)   17.   Stage of Meditative Consciousness: Illumination. “Scorpio—Illumination—The soul triumphs. Experience in Taurus consummated. Astral glamour dissipated. Soul light pours in. The Path of Discipleship. The Disciple.” (EA 228-229)
18.   The Crisis of the Birthplace characterized by the process/quality of Initiation   18.   The Crisis of the Battlefield characterized by the process/quality of Conflict

Scorpio
1.   Expressive of both the second and third aspects of divinity, but especially well-rooted in the third. “Virgo is the focal point for the expression of the third aspect, that of active intelligence. In that sign the highest function of matter is symbolised.” (EA 194, also 280)   1.   Expressive of the first aspect as it seeks to transmute the third aspect so that the second aspect may emerge—“triumphant”.
2.   Cosmically associated principally with the Pleiades. “One of the most esoteric cycles is based upon certain conjunctions and respective positions of Virgo and the Pleiades.” (EA 657) “Virgo is inseparable from Leo and the Pleiades and the Hyades.” (EA 679) Virgo is related to several feminine constellations which figure importantly in the astrology of the form. “There is Cassiopea, Venus, Coma Berenice, Andromeda and one or two others, as well as Virgo, the Virgin, the most important of them all.” (EA 400)   2.   Cosmically, associated primarily with Sirius. “Scorpio is under the influence or inflowing energy of Sirius. This is the great star of initiation because our Hierarchy (an expression of the second aspect of divinity) is under the supervision or spiritual magnetic control of the Hierarchy of Sirius.” (EA 197) Initiation (Sirius) is transformation (Scorpio) “Scorpio is the great constellation which influences the turning point both in the life of humanity and the life of the individual human being. For the first time in the history of both mankind and disciples the energy of Sirius, pouring into the seven groups which form our planetary Hierarchy evokes a response.” (EA 198) “We come now to another triangle, the activity of which produces the manifestation of Hierarchy—the intermediary between Shamballa and Humanity: Scorpio, Sirius and Mars.”(EA 483)
3.   Three Constellations Connected with Virgo: a) Coma Berenice—the Mother of the Form Only; b) The Centaur—Half Man/Half Horse; c) Bootes—the One Who is Coming (LOH 120)   3.   Three Constellations Connected with Scorpio: a) Serpens—the Serpent of Illusion; b) Ophiuchus—the Serpent Handler or Wrestler; c) Hercules—the Sun God/Hero (LOH 153-154)

Subtle Relationships Between Rays, Zodiacal and Planetary Energies

Subtle Relationships Between Rays,
Zodiacal and Planetary Energies

Virgo
In Comparison With
Scorpio
1.   Virgo transmits the second ray constellationally. Virgo is also the eleventh sign of the zodiac, counting by polarities (Aries-Libra, Taurus-Scorpio, Gemini-etc.), which reinforces its resonance with the second ray.   1.   Uranus (exalted in Scorpio) is in line with a great second ray transmission of force from Sirius, and is also one of three planets (Uranus, Jupiter and Venus) which probably participate in the expression of a great second ray Entity (EPII 99)
2.   Virgo transmits the sixth ray constellationally.   2.    Scorpio is the sixth sign of the zodiac on the ordinary (clock-wise) wheel, and hence has numerical affinity with the sixth ray. Mars, the exoteric and esoteric ruler,  transmits the sixth ray. Pluto, special ruler, has solar plexus associations (EA 78), hence, sixth ray associations.
3.   Virgo (the second oldest of the constellations) is associated with the third ray—the ray of the previous solar system. “…it might be said that Cancer is an expression (in the stage of great advancement) of the first half of the life cycle in solar system one, whilst Virgo is an equally advanced expression of the second half” (EA 256).   3.   Scorpio (like Virgo) is a triple sign, hence related to the third aspect (which it conquers) and to the third ray. Mars participates in the expression of a great third ray Entity (EPII 99) ; Pluto is related to the third ray through stealth and stratagem; Mercury is strongly related to the third ray and may well transmit it via the personality. (EA 280) Uranus, exalted in Scorpio, expresses the third ray. (EA 138, 200)
4.   Virgo is the sixth sign of the zodiac on the reversed wheel and, hence, has numerical affinity with the number six and with the sixth ray.   4.   See #2 above.
5.   Virgo is the seventh sign on the clockwise wheel, if the numbering begins with Pisces (which the Tibetan does in relation to Leo). This points out Virgo’s numerical affinity with the seventh ray.   5.   Uranus, exalted in Scorpio, transmits the seventh ray.
6.   Virgo is the eighth sign of the zodiac on the clockwise wheel and hence is related to the Christ—Whose number is “eight” (EA 37)—and to Mercury—the “Messenger at the eighth gate.”   6.   Scorpio is the eighth sign of the zodiac on the reversed wheel and, hence, also has numerical affinity with the Christ, and with Mercury (EA 298) the “Messenger at the eighth gate” “Eight is, under some numerical systems, regarded as the number of the Christ.” (EA 37) Further, Mercury is hierarchically ruled by Mercury.
7.   Virgo is the eleventh sign of the zodiac on the reversed wheel, if one numbers in polarities (Aries-Libra-Taurus-Scorpio-etc.). This reinforces its connection with the second ray and also points to an affinity with Aquarius and Gemini the eleventh sign on the reversed and clockwise wheels respectively.   7.   See #1 above.
8.   Mercury (the “Son of Mind”—the Christ coming to birth) rules exoterically and is also exalted in Virgo.   8.   Mercury is the hierarchical ruler of Scorpio.
9.   Mercury is the exoteric ruler of Virgo (and also exalted) and transmits the fourth ray.   9.   Scorpio transmits the fourth ray, constellationally. Counting by polarities (Aries-Libra-Scorpio-Taurus-etc.), Scorpio is the fourth sign, hence resonant with the fourth ray. Mercury, the hierarchical ruler of Scorpio, transmits the fourth ray. Mars also seems to be associated with the lower part of the fourth ray—the conflict side. (Note the frequent Mars/Mercury associations, as, for instance, related to kundalini.)
10.   Mercury, the exoteric ruler which, additionally, is exalted in Virgo, has a close relation to the third ray. (EA 280)   10.   See #3 above.
11.   Mercury has a close relation to the fifth ray, through its relation to the fifth scheme, the fifth round, the fifth race and sub-race. “The fifth race is born under Mercury.” (EA 663)   11.   Scorpio is the fifth  sign of the zodiac on the clockwise wheel—numbering from Pisces as one.  This gives Scorpio numerical affinity with the fifth ray.. Mars expresses the fifth ray in its relation to science and the five senses. (EA 215) Uranus has strong fifth ray associations through “exoteric science.” (EA 149)
12.   The Moon is the esoteric ruler of Virgo, and transmits the fourth ray.   12.   See #9 above.
13.   The Moon is anciently related to the third ray, being associated with dense physical “matter” and with the Moon Chain and the first solar system in which the third ray was dominant.   13.   See #3 above.
14.   The Moon is also associated with the seventh ray, through its rulership of the seventh manifested Creative Hierarchy and its rulership of the dense part of the seventh plane.   14.   See #5 above.
15.   Vulcan is a veiled esoteric ruler in Virgo and transmits the first ray.   15.   Scorpio (as its close connection with Hercules implies) is strongly related to the first ray as a constellation as a cosmic decanate. (cf. EA 204,  486-487). This first ray association may emerge more definitely in a future world period.  Mars, the exoteric and esoteric ruler of Scorpio, transmits the first ray, because its “School” trains “those whose work is along the lines of the destroyer.” (TCF 1179). It is the first ray which is the Ray of the Destroyer. Pluto, a special ruler in Scorpio, is the “Lord of Death” and transmits the first ray. Uranus, exalted in Scorpio, is the “home of fire electric” and transmits the first ray, almost certainly monadically. (TCF 1154)
16.   .Vulcan, a veiled esoteric ruler in Virgo, has a close relation to the number four—to the fourth kingdom (the Human Kingdom), the fourth kingdom from the human (the Mineral Kingdom) and to the fourth initiation.   16.   See #9 above.
17.   Vulcan has an association with the second ray, as Vulcan is connected to the “heart of the sun.” (EA 393)   17.   See #1 above.
18.    Vulcan has associations with the fifth ray through concretion and the seventh ray, through the mineral kingdom and the principle of rhythm.   18.   See #11 above.
19.   Neptune is a veiled esoteric ruler of Virgo and transmits the sixth ray.   19.   See #2 above.
20.   Neptune also transmits the second ray monadically. (EPI 421)   20.   See #1 above.
21.   Neptune is associated with the fourth ray through its rulership of the fourth or buddhic plane, and with the third ray through its associations with the “waters” which are “matter.” (EA 666, 275)   21.   See #9 above.
22.   Jupiter is the hierarchical ruler of Virgo and transmits the second ray.   22.   See #1 above.
23.   Jupiter also transmits the seventh ray through its association with “ritualistic worship.” (EA 660)   23.   See #5 above.
24.   Jupiter has a possible connection with the sixth ray through its exoteric rulership of Sagittarius and its enthusiastic nature.   24.   See #2 above.
25.   It is hard to conceive that Virgo, as a constellation, has no relation to the seventh ray because of the traits demonstrated by so many Virgoan individuals. In any case, Virgo is the ruler of the seventh Creative Hierarchy (if the unmanifested Hierarchies are included in the numbering).   25.   See # 5 above.

23.   “Virgo is a triple sign.” “These two signs are crucial in the experience of the human being, indicating as they do the function of the triple form and the liberation of the man imprisoned in the form, through the tests in Scorpio wherein he proves to himself and to the world the reality of that which Virgo has veiled or hidden.” (EA 56) “The astrological symbols for Virgo and Scorpio are triple in nature—the only two which are. When the disciple grasps the meaning behind this triplicity, he will be ready to grasp the significance of this abstruse science and to work with the new astrology.” (EA 480)   23.   “Scorpio is also a triple sign, closely resembling the symbol of Virgo.” “These two signs are crucial in the experience of the human being, indicating as they do the function of the triple form and the liberation of the man imprisoned in the form, through the tests in Scorpio wherein he proves to himself and to the world the reality of that which Virgo has veiled or hidden.” (EA 56) “The astrological symbols for Virgo and Scorpio are triple in nature—the only two which are. When the disciple grasps the meaning behind this triplicity, he will be ready to grasp the significance of this abstruse science and to work with the new astrology.” (EA 480)
24.   Virgo and Scorpio in the Atonement of Personality, Soul and Spirit: “Virgo and Scorpio are two signs connected with the growth of the Christ consciousness; they mark critical points in the soul's experience—points of integration wherein the soul is consciously at-one-ing itself with the form and at the same time with spirit.” (EA 480-481)   24.   Virgo and Scorpio in the Atonement of Personality, Soul and Spirit: “Virgo and Scorpio are two signs connected with the growth of the Christ consciousness; they mark critical points in the soul's experience—points of integration wherein the soul is consciously at-one-ing itself with the form and at the same time with spirit.” (EA 480-481)
25.   Virgo (with Scorpio) as a Predecessor of Capricorn: “Capricorn opens the door into the Hierarchy in a higher aspect when the last three initiations can be undergone and the significance of Scorpio and of Virgo is understood.” (EA 157)   25.   Scorpio (with Virgo) as a Predecessor of Capricorn: Capricorn opens the door into the Hierarchy in a higher aspect when the last three initiations can be undergone and the significance of Scorpio and of Virgo is understood.” (EA 157)
26.   Virgo on the Ordinary Wheel—Materialism or Quickening: “The following Virgo life will be either one of a personality, materialistic nature, lived under the influence of the material aspect of Virgo, the Mother, or there will be evidenced a slowly emerging soul vibration, indicating that hidden spiritual life of which the Virgin Mother is the fore-ordained custodian. (EA 227)   26.   Scorpio on the Ordinary Wheel—Intuition Arising: “…normally drastic experience of the man in Scorpio; this is usually of such a nature that the instinct to self-preservation has been aroused to such an extent that in the dire need of the man (not the disciple, at this time) a call to the soul has gone forth and has evoked response. The first few faint flashes of the intuition have been sensed and vaguely recognised.” (EA  227)
27.   Virgo on the Reversed Wheel: “…the active soul life (active through the medium of the personality nature and not simply on its own plane) is registered, recorded and noted in Virgo,…” (EA 228)   27.   Scorpio on the Reversed Wheel: “…the active soul life (active through the medium of the personality nature and not simply on its own plane)… eventually [brings] about the tests and trials between the soul and the personality, which latter fights with power and determination to preserve the status quo of the balanced expression of these two where the preponderance of the personality influence is not possible. (EA 228)
28.   In Virgo—the Recognition of the Indwelling Christ: “In Virgo, the purpose for which form life exists begins to be realised and the desire for personality satisfaction begins to change and the desire of man for interior recognition of the indwelling Christ begins to assume increasing control until the inner spiritual reality is eventually released from the thralldom of matter and becomes manifest in its own true nature in the world.” (EA 259-260)   28.   In Scorpio—Preparing for the “Assumption of the Virgin”: “It is interesting to note that Scorpio establishes the inevitability of this final assumption of matter into heaven in Capricorn, and this is previsioned for us in the story of Hercules in Scorpio when he raises the Hydra high above his head into the air.” (EA 260)
29.   Dualism in Virgo: “the mother and the child” (EA 272)   29.   Dualism in Scorpio: “the Word and the Flesh” (EA 272) “…this dualism is emphasised in a still more intimate and comprehensible manner in Scorpio, in which the note of the evolutionary cycle which it dominates is ‘the Word made Flesh’.”
30.   Virgo in relation to the Cancer-Virgo-Scorpio-Capricorn-Pisces Quintuplicity: “In Virgo, the Christ life or consciousness is hidden and the Christ Child is as yet embryonic in the womb of matter and of time, and during this stage, the emphasis is upon the form which veils and hides the reality. The human soul and the divine soul (the essential duality) are there but their presence is not easily detected.” (EA  318)   30.   Scorpio in Relation to the Cancer-Virgo-Scorpio-Capricorn-Pisces Quintuplicity: “In Scorpio comes a point of transition, of change and of re-orientation. That which has been hitherto hidden appears and is brought to the surface by means of the experience, the tests, the trials and the ‘sting of life’.”
31.   Mars in Relation to Virgo after Libra on the Ordinary Wheel: “…the ‘quickening’ of the spiritual life” (EA 250)   31.   Mars in Relation to Scorpio after Libra on the Reversed Wheel: “…gathering his forces for a renewed effort…” (EA 250)
32.   The Sixth and Fourth Rays are Dominant upon the Path of Evolution: Virgo is active in relation to the fourth ray through Mercury. (EA 166)   32.   The Sixth and Fourth Rays are Dominant upon the Path of Evolution: Scorpio is active in relation to the sixth ray through Mercury. (EA 166)
33.   The Occult Hierarchy Makes Itself Felt in Scorpio: “In Scorpio, the influence of the occult Hierarchy begins to set its seal on the human being, and his essential duality is put to the test. This is preparatory to a new and higher unity. He is at the miserable stage of being neither the soul nor the form—the stage of transition. Such is the way of the disciple. The hierarchical centre is affecting him powerfully.” (EA 319)   33.   Shamballa Makes Itself Felt in Relation to Pisces: “In Pisces, the influence of Shamballa claims the initiate as its field of activity and the dualism of soul and spirit emerges instead of that of soul and body which has hitherto been of major importance. The power of the form to hold the soul in captivity has been negated and tests and trials of the initiate up to the third initiation are directed to this end. Such is the way of the initiate.” (EA 319-320)
34.   Ordinary Wheel—Virgo and Scorpio in Relation to the Cancer-Virgo-Scorpio-Aquarius Quadruplicity: “From one point of view, you have the imprisonment of the soul and the glorification of the personality demonstrated, ending with death in Scorpio;…” (EA 341)   34.   Reversed Wheel—Virgo and Scorpio in Relation to the Cancer-Virgo-Scorpio-Aquarius Quadruplicity: “in the other you have the revelation of the Christ within the form, the revelation of the serving individual and the revelation of the final victory over death.” (EA 341)
35.   Virgo—for the Undeveloped Man: “The germinating energy. The Mother.” (EA 332)   35.   Scorpio—for the Undeveloped Man: “Unity of selfishness. The Monster.” (EA 333)
36.   Virgo—for the Advanced Man: “The creative force. The Protector.” (EA 332)   36.   Scorpio—for the Advanced Man: “Conflict with duality. The Fighter.” (EA 333)
37.   Virgo—for the Disciple/Initiate: “The Christ activity. The Light.” (EA 332)   37.   Scorpio—for the Disciple/Initiate: “Higher Unity. The Disciple.” (EA 333)
38.   Yearly Opportunity in Relation to Virgo: When the Sun is in Virgo, an individual “will know that opportunity to bring the form more under the influence of the hidden Christ is possible…” (EA 564)   38.   Yearly Opportunity in Relation to Scorpio: When the Sun is in Scorpio, an individual may cultivate the power to overcome some aspect of his lower nature—through humility, and the use of the analytical mind and intuition.
39.   The Life of the Christ from a Virgoan Perspective: “The Virgo aspect came into expression in His twelfth year when He said: ‘Wist ye not that I must be about My Father’s business,’ thereby indicating the subordination of the form life to the will of the indwelling Christ; this was consummated when ‘divinity descended upon Him’ at the Baptism. (EA 564)   39.   The Life of the Christ from a Scorpionic Perspective: “The significance of this sign in the life of Christ has been deleted from The New Testament, but has been preserved for us in the ancient Christian legend that—in the cradle itself—Christ killed or strangled two serpents, thus referring to the pairs of opposites which could no longer control Him.” (EA 566)

Similarities and Points of Cooperation Between the Influences

 Similarities and Points of Cooperation
Between the Zodiacal Influences

A.   Both Virgo and Scorpio are triple signs, synthesizing (in different way) body, soul and spirit.

B.   Both signs can unite soul to personality or materialistically divide soul from personality.

C.   Both carry predominantly soft line Rays –two and six in Virgo and four in Scorpio.

Both are much associated with the dynamics of the unfoldment of the Christ process. Virgo unfolds the Christ through time and slow nurturing and germinating processes. Scorpio unfolds the Christ through violence and the rending of the separating veils.

Both are powerfully discerning and discriminating signs and have a talent for analysis and investigation, for Mercury is exalted in Virgo and is the orthodox ruler of Virgo and Mercury is the hierarchical ruler of Scorpio.

Both signs are intimately involved in soul culture. Obedience is learned in Virgo and the discriminative separation of personality influences from soul influences, whereas under Scorpio, the full tide of soul influence is released often destructively. Nevertheless, both signs are involved in the soul taking over personality processes.

D.    The glyph of the two signs is similar, showing their close association to the M of Matter, with the exception that the life aspect is incorporated in form under Virgo and released from form under Scorpio. Nevertheless, a new synthesis of life, soul and form is created under Scorpio as at the fourth initiation.

So in relation to the Christ, Virgo represents the birth of the Christ and Scorpio, the triumph of the Christ, at least a relative triumph.

E.      Both signs are associated with monadic power, since Scorpio rules the human Monads and Virgo rules the Divine Builders much higher than the Monads and yet the ones who give the Monads inspiration.

There is a strong sixth Ray connection with them as well, for Virgo is transmitting the sixth Ray and planetarily transmits the sixth Ray via Neptune which is veiled by the Moon.

And Scorpio’s planet Mars transmits the sixth Ray. Therefore on the higher level, Virgo can also affect the astral plane with Christ love even as Scorpio is usually focused upon the astral plane.

Interestingly, the Virgoan focus begins upon the mental plane and moves more to astral-buddhic. And Scorpio’s focus begins upon the emotional plane, but develops a strong mentality.

n terms of the Rays, the fourth Ray is also powerful in relation to Virgo because of its rulership orthodoxly by Mercury and esoterically by the Moon. And Scorpio distributes the fourth Ray as a constellation.

F.      Both signs are joined by representing two directions which result from the Libran decision, either backwards into Matter via Virgo or forwards into Soul and Spirit via Scorpio.

In many ways, both of these signs are signs of purification, though the methods administered in Scorpio are far more drastic and final than those more analytical, discriminative, rational methods instituted in Virgo.

Both signs as well have powerful destructive potential, Virgo through rationalism and critical analysis and Scorpio through the will to obliterate the opposition. Though a major difference and we can go back, is Virgo less subject to desire, Scorpio far more subject to desire.

G.    Another major distinction has to do with the acquiescent nature of Virgo which gives up its own will in favor of a higher will. And does so with a minimum of conflict, whereas Scorpio carries the quality of the rebel and only after a tremendous fight, surrenders its will completely to the higher Will. Yet both at length do surrender to the higher Will.

H.   Both of these signs have a powerful connection to the Christian church as can be imagined through their strong sixth Ray nature. Both are in fact, signs of sacrifice which ties them into the Christian thought process, Virgo being the sign of acquiescent service and Scorpio the sign in which one looses ones life to find it.

So in both signs, the factor of self abnegation is powerful.

Both of these signs are medical in nature, the M of medicine correlating with the M of their glyphs. They might excel in such areas as bacteriology or pathology, the detection of the small hidden things. Diagnosis might also be an excellent field for the expression of these energies.

I.   Both signs are secretive and prefer to work outside the lime light (unless there are other planetary indications that contradict solitude)  Virgo is the sign of the valley and Scorpio, the sign of the hidden cave. Even Virgo itself is associated with the caves of initiation. So both signs represent powerful subterranean processes which work to good effect unnoticed by the casual observer.

They are also signs of healing. Interestingly when one considers the rulers of these signs, many of them are associated with the Kundalini force which is essentially a healing power, Mercury ruling Kundalini active, Mars ruling Kundalini latent and Pluto in general associated with the power at the base of the spine.

So both of these signs are associated with the purification and regeneration of Matter and hence of the entire personality in preparation for the descent of the Christ force.

Whereas lower Libra is often associated with the preservation of the status quo, having a strong Saturnian nature as it does, major changes and improvements however quietly pursued, are associated with Virgo and with Scorpio.

Thus these are two signs associated with the magical process. Virgo is the marshalling of the elemental forces and rendering them into servants. Certainly, their laws are known and understood in all particularity and Scorpio so often associated with ritual is connected with the compelling of these forces.

There is much compulsion in Scorpio which does not exist in Virgo.

Both depending upon the Rays associated, can make excellent researchers because of their power to dig and to delve and to bring to light that which is hidden.

Both as well are strongly associated with the meditative thought process, Virgo specifically with the stage of meditation and Scorpio with the phase of intuition.

These are very intriguing signs and there seem to be many similarities here. Indeed, Virgo and Scorpio may have been one sign at one time before the interposition of Libra.

And in some way these two signs are associated with the division or non-division of the sexes.
