8.   Secondarily, (assuredly, but not exclusively) Sagittarius transmits R2, R3 and R6 through Jupiter, the Earth and Mars—its three planetary rulers on three levels—exoteric, esoteric and hierarchical..   8.   Secondarily, (assuredly, but not exclusively), Pisces transmits R2, R1 and R6, through Jupiter, Pluto and Neptune—its planetary rulers on three levels—exoteric, esoteric and hierarchical.
9.   Color: rich blue   9.   Color: lavender
10.   Creative Hierarchy number VI (manifested), the Lunar Lords, or Sacrificial Fires.   10.   Creative Hierarchy number I (unmanifested) characterized by the energy of Intelligent Substance
11.   Associated with the instinct-directing, ‘soul-ward’ orienting, ‘form-abstractive’ first initiation; with the fierily-baptizing, ideal-containing, de-glamorizing, clear-eyed second initiation, and with the direction-choosing, outward-bound, adventuring, nirvanic sixth initiation—the initiation of Decision.   11.   Associated with the Fixed-Cross-mounting first initiation (cf. EA 125); the purifying, desire-releasing second initiation; the crucifying, death-dealing fourth initiation, as well as the liberating Path-revealing fifth initiation, which in this case opens to the “world saviour” the door to Shamballa and to great revelation through self-abnegating willingness to serve the Divine Will. (cf. EA 141, 320-321, for the fourth and fifth initiations) Since, Pisces brings about the “consummation of divine desire”, the sixth initiation which restores the ‘Savior-Monad’ to complete power may also be indicated.
12.   Sagittarius can be reasonably associated with the insistently driving, aspiring, fiery solar plexus center; with the instinctively-hunting, passion-driven sacral center, and even with the center at the base of the spine, where the latent fire (Mars) awaits its rising; Earth (with its first ray Monad and a symbol identical to the fourfold structure of the base center) is the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius, connecting it to that lowest center.  The personality-directing, clear-seeing, force controlling ajna center should also be influenced strongly by Sagittarius, at a relatively high point in the evolutionary process.

12.   Pisces can be reasonably associated with the centers in the soles of the feet, giving humility, ‘under-standing’, and the power to tread the Path. Pisces is also strongly related to the solar plexus center (in relation to which purification of desire and detachment must prevail) and to the compassionate, all-embracing, all-forgiving heart center—these centers being ruled, in part, by Neptune, special ruler of Pisces. Pisces can, at a high point of evolution, condition the ajna center (when Alpha {Aries—crown center} and Omega {Pisces—ajna}) meet. The buddhically-resonant heart within the head, of which the Buddha, Himself, is a symbol (EXH 87) is another significant association.

13.   The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Sagittarius guides the Monad on its descent into material immersion, and, again, through an inherently flawless sense of direction, guides the Monad upon its path of return. Sagittarius contributes to the conviction of “monadic destiny”, and destination.   13.   The zodiacal signs influence the Monad of every human being (EA 411, 637, TCF 1191); the influence from Pisces provides the foundational motivation for the entire monadic pilgrimage, for every Monad is a “Lord of ceaseless, persevering devotion” (EA 117) and, under the influence of Pisces—a savior. The monadic pilgrimage is entirely sacrificial, and is undertaken for purposes of redemption. Pisces both symbolizes and impulses the humanly unfathomable Self-abnegation which send the Monad forth. “Go forth into matter”, is one mantram of Pisces.
14.   Within the Triad—Sagittarius is focused in both buddhi and higher manas—the abstract mind. Sagittarius transmits the fourth ray, which relates to the fourth, or buddhic,  plane and the principle of  buddhi.  Sagittarius is one of the intuitive signs. (EA 177) In Sagittarius, intuition (fourth ray, second principle) governs aspiration (sixth ray—which Sagittarius also transmits) (cf. EA 178) Sagittarius is at once philosophical (utilizing the abstract mind) and intuitive. The blend of buddhi and higher manas may be called “universal or spiritual mind” which Sagittarius expresses in relation to Mercury. (EA 369)   14.   Within the Triad—Pisces (which transmits the second ray)  is principally related to the second principle buddhi, as it expresses the divine love, wisdom and understanding which redeem. Pisces is also one of the intuitive signs connecting it to buddhi. Pisces eventually induces a “pervasiveness of wisdom” (EA 136), and wisdom is the influence of the first aspect upon the second (as in the case of the Buddha). (cf. DINA II 518) In Pisces there is a powerful sensitivity to the will of God, (“Father, not my will by Thine by done”) and thus to the atmic aspect of the Triad—and to the Monad. Pisces, transcending Mercury, is less related to higher manas.
15.   In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and causal body) through which it expresses—Sagittarius can be seen as the will of the Solar Angel to inspire its personality to a state of aspiration through the presentation of an elevating vision of future spiritual possibilities. As well, when the personality errs (as oft it does), Sagittarius represents the ‘guiding beam of light’ which offers a secure sense of spiritual direction—directing, at length, to the mountain of initiation.   15.   In relation to the Solar Angel, and the soul-consciousness (and causal body) through which it expresses—Pisces is the energy of the will-to-save which animates those “Hearts of Fiery Love” known as Agnishvattas, or Solar Angels. Pisces (in which Solar Angelic Venus is exalted) provides the originating incentive for the sacrifice which the Solar Angels made aeons ago, on behalf of the human Monads, and in service of the Planetary Logos. Pisces governs the Solar Angel as Savior.
16.   Within the Personality—Sagittarius can be identified with the directing, thought-projecting power of the lower mental nature and its eventual responsiveness to intuitive guidance; with the passional and eventual aspirational processes of the astral nature; with the vibrancy and buoyancy of the etheric nature; and with the general tendency to energetic activity of the dense physical nature. Sagittarius is particularly associated with the integrated, one-pointed, disciplic personality.(The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)   16.   Within the Personality—Pisces can be identified with the impressionability and eventual intuitive sensitivity of the lower mental nature; with the sentient permeability, and imaginative, tranquilizing processes within the astral nature; with the induction of quietude within the etheric nature; and with the general sensitivity of the dense physical vehicle. (The vehicular focus and its degree of prominence, depends upon the stage of evolutionary development.)
17.   Stage of Meditative Consciousness: Inspiration   17.   Stage of Meditative Consciousness: Identification
18.   Thc Choice of Direction   18.   The Choice of Method of Salvation (such as that which confronted the Christ in the Garden of Gethsemene)

Wider Relationships: Cosmic and Systemic

Sagittarius
In Comparison With
Pisces
1.   Expressive principally of the third aspect of divinity because it is the third fire sign. “From Aries comes cosmic fire; from Sagittarius comes planetary fire; and from Leo comes solar fire; and each of these fires ‘clears the way by burning’ for the expression of the three divine aspects: spirit (Aries), soul (Leo) and body (Sagittarius).” (EA 293) Expressive of the second or consciousness aspect, through its majority of soft-line constellation and planetary rays.   1.   Expressive principally of the second divine aspect, with a lengthy history connected to the material substance (“water”) of the third. There is some emphasis upon the liberating will of the first aspect. “In Pisces, you have the consummation of the work of that which the matter aspect has made possible, and the Christ emerges as the world saviour. All this has taken place through the will aspect of the second ray, focussed in Shamballa, expressing itself through humanity and consummated in the Hierarchy. (EA 627-628)
2.   Definite cosmic association with the Pleiades and probably with the Little Bear (particularly Polaris—the Pole Star).  “Pleiades—Gemini/Sagittarius—Mercury” (EA 50) “GeminiSagittariusMercury (which are an expression of the Pleiades) enable the Probationary Disciple to pass on to the Path of Accepted Discipleship.” “…The Pointers; these point to the Pole star which is at this time a major ‘star of direction’.” (EA 195) It should be noted that Sagittarius is a major sign of direction. If Leo and Aries rule the two Pointers, then the third fire sign, Sagittarius, should be connected with Polaris. Also, Sirius, Gemini and Sagittarius probably formed a triangle at the time of man’s individualization. (cf. EA 355) Sagittarius and Betelgeuse are related to the third cosmic path: “Source— Betelgeuse, via the sign Sagittarius.” (EA 1257)   2.   Cosmically related to Sirius. “The triangle of Pisces-Uranus-Hierarchy is becoming magnetically attractive to the triangle of Humanity.” (EA 438) “And then the heavens within the ring-pass-not responded to the light from Sirius which, passing through the sea of Pisces, lifted the fishes into the heavenly sphere (Uranus) and thus a lesser triple light appeared, the radiant sun of suns, the watery light of Pisces, the heavenly light of Uranus.” (EA 432, also 427-428)
A connection between the Dragon, the Pleiades and Pisces may well exist, in relation to the saving,  self-abnegating Path of Earth Service. (cf. TCF 904, 1162)
3.   Three Constellations Connected with Sagittarius: a) Lyra—the Seven Stringed Harp; b) Ara—the Altar; c) Draco—the Serpent of Wisdom (LOH 166-167)   3.   Three Constellations Connected with Pisces: a) The Band—(connecting the two Fishes; b) Andromeda—the Chained Woman; c) Cepheus—the King (LOH 200)

Subtle Relationships Between Rays, Zodiacal and Planetary Energies

Subtle Relationships Between Rays,
Zodiacal and Planetary Energies

Sagittarius
In Comparison With
Pisces
1.   Sagittarius transmits the fourth ray, constellationally. Sagittarius is also the fourth sign on the clockwise wheel, IF numbering begins with Pisces (which the Tibetan does in relation to Leo). This numerical fact reinforces Sagittarius’s relationship to the fourth ray.   1.   Only indirect fourth ray connections relate Pisces to the fourth ray. Venus, the planet exalted in Pisces, can be understood as associated with the harmony and beauty aspects of the fourth ray (but not with the factors within this ray which lead to conflict). Neptune, the special spiritual ruler of Pisces (for “humanity as a whole”) has strong relations to buddhi/intuition, and to the fourth plane, the buddhic plane
2.   Sagittarius transmits the fifth ray constellationally.   2.   Venus (exalted) transmits the fifth ray. Pluto, for whom Mars is the “Alter Ego” (EA 507) is connected with scientific research, and Mars rules science—on the fifth ray.
3.   Sagittarius transmits the sixth ray constellationally. Jupiter (through enthusiasm) has sixth ray associations. Mars, hierarchical ruler, transmits the sixth ray.   3.   Pisces transmits the sixth ray constellationally. Enthusiastic Jupiter has sixth ray associations. Neptune (a special ruler of Pisces) transmits the sixth ray. Pluto (esoteric and hierarchical ruler) has sixth ray associations through its relation to the solar plexus. (EA 78)
4.   Sagittarius is the ninth sign of the zodiac on the reversed wheel, hence connected to the third ray by numerical affinity, as the number nine is the number characterizing the cycles of the third ray.

4   Pisces, associated with “water” and with the “ocean” has an indirect connection with the material third ray through “matter.” Pisces is the “fish swimming in the waters of matter and finding there its sustenance.” (EA 287) ‘As we well know, water stands for matter,…” (TCF 1005)  “Neptune is as you know, the God of the waters, and the term ‘water’ covers many angles of the esoteric wisdom, such as: The whole concept of matter—universal and itemised.”.. (EA 275) The Piscean is to become “the fish who swims free in the ocean of matter.” (EA 62)  Pisces is also the twelfth sign on the reversed wheel, numbering normally and also by polarities (Aries-Libra, Taurus-Scorpio, etc.), and hence, resonant to the third ray. Neptune rules Pisces in a special way (EA 171), and the Neptunian trident connects it to the third ray. “Water” and “matter” are equivalent and matter is ruled by the third ray. Pluto, through it lunar, material, sub-conscious associations, and its associations with the “past”,  shows its relation to the third ray.

5.   Sagittarius is the fifth sign of the zodiac on the clockwise wheel, and hence has numerical affinity with the fifth ray.   5.   See #2 above.
6.   Sagittarius is related to winged Mercury, Who is the “Messenger at the eighth gate.” Although Mercury is in detriment in this sign, it is powerful in relation to the intuition.   6.   Pisces demonstrates the culmination of the Christ-life, for Venus (“pure love wisdom”) is exalted in Pisces. Mercury, which falls in Pisces, really “falls away” from its lowest functions, and becomes highly intuitive, in revealing the Christ-life in all things.
7.   Jupiter, the exoteric ruler, transmits the second ray. Earth, esoteric ruler, has a second ray soul and, thus, transmits the second ray.   7.   Pisces transmits the second ray, constellationally. Jupiter, the exoteric ruler of Pisces, transmits the second ray. Neptune, as special, spiritual ruler of Pisces for “humanity as a whole(EA 129), transmits the second ray monadically. Venus, “pure love-wisdom” (exalted in Pisces), transmits the second ray. (EA 281)
8.   Jupiter, the exoteric ruler,  transmits the seventh ray, through its association with ritualism. (EA 660)   8.   Jupiter, the exoteric ruler of Pisces, rules “ritualistic worship” and,  thus, transmits the seventh ray. (cf. EA 648, 660)
9.   Enthusiastic Jupiter, the exoteric ruler, is involved with ritualistic worship, and, hence, can be understood as related to the sixth ray. The twelve petals of the Jupiter-ruled heart center is double-six.   9.   See #3 above.
10.   Earth, the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius, transmits the third ray through its personality.   10.   See #4 above.
11.   Earth, the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius, transmits the second ray through its soul.   11.   See #7 above.
12.   Earth the hierarchical ruler of Sagittarius, transmits the first ray (however weakly) through its Monad.   12.   Pluto is the esoteric and hierarchical ruler of Pisces, and transmits the first ray.
13.   Mars, the hierarchical ruler of Sagittarius, transmits the sixth ray.   13.   See #3 above.
14.   Mars trains “those whose work is along the lines of the destroyer”, hence must be expressive of the first ray.   14.   See #12 above.
15.   Mars is related to the fifth ray through the five senses and science, which it rules. (EA 215)   15.   See #2 above.
16.   Mars is related to the third ray through its participation in the manifestation of a great third ray Entity. (EPII 99)   16.   See #4 above.
17.   Mars (the “God of War”) may be affiliated with the conflict or “lower” side of the fourth ray, just as Venus may be affiliated with the harmony and beauty aspect of this ray. “The relation of the fourth ray to the fourth kingdom in nature (which is the fourth Creative Hierarchy) is a predetermining influence in all world conflict up to date and is the cause which has produced the history  of war and conflict down the ages.” (EA 327-328)   17.   See #1 above.

8.   Sagittarius for the Evolved Man: “One-pointed spiritual aspiration. Disciples.” (EA 182)   8.   Pisces for the Evolved Man: “The world Saviour. Mediatorship.” (EA 182)
9.   Sagittarius upon the Mutable Cross: “Sagittarius—Here the ordinary man begins to demonstrate a tendency to become more focussed and the fluidity and negativity of Pisces become concentrated upon the attainment of that which is desired. The man demonstrates one-pointed selfish instincts and though he may be, for instance, friendly and kind, it is through a desire for popularity. This is a good expression of the individual Sagittarian subject and shows also the tendency of the soul to turn all evil eventually into good. The lessons of life are being learned and experiment is going on.” (EA 118)   9.   Pisces upon the Mutable Cross: “Pisces—Here the beginner upon the way of life starts with a material receptivity which will enable him to respond to all contacts in the cycle of manifestation. He is, at this stage, negative, fluid and endowed with an instinctual consciousness which contains within itself the potentiality of the intuition. But the seed of the intuition is dormant. The mind which is the instrument of reception from the intuition is, at this stage, unawakened.” (EA 118)
10.   Sagittarius upon the Fixed Cross: “Sagittarius—This is now the sign of the one-pointed disciple. The life of fluid response to matter becomes that of the focussed response to spirit and preparation for initiation in Capricorn. The arrow of the mind is projected unerringly towards the goal.” (EA 121)   10.   Pisces upon the Fixed Cross: “Pisces—Here, at the final stage, Pisces stands for the death of the personality and the release of the soul from captivity and its return into the task of the world Saviour. The great achievement is finished and the final death is undergone. "There is no more sea" says the ancient book, which means inevitably the "death of the fishes" and the release of the imprisoned life into new forms or new cycles of the divine Adventure.” (EA 121)

15.   Yearly Opportunity in Relation to Sagittarius: When the Sun is in Sagittarius the disciple may “endeavour to practice ‘one-pointedness’ along some one line.” (EA 564)   15.   Yearly Opportunity in Relation to Pisces: When the Sun is in Pisces, the disciple will know that “sensitivity to the higher impression is his right and privilege.” (EA 564)
16   The Life of the Christ from a Sagittarian Perspective: “The Sagittarian energy enabled Him to say, when confronted with full knowledge of the imminent sacrifice which He would have to make: ‘I must go up to Jerusalem,’ and, we read, He then ‘set His face’ and trod the Path of the Saviour, leading to the liberation of humanity.” ( EA 565)   16.   The Life of the Christ from a Piscean Perspective: “The Piscean aspect in its highest expression is demonstrated by His sensitivity to immediate and unbroken contact with His "Father in Heaven"; He was in constant communication with the Monad, thereby proving to the world that He was initiated into states of consciousness of which the third initiation is but the beginning.” (EA 565)

Similarities and Points of Cooperation Between the Influences

 Similarities and Points of Cooperation
Between the Zodiacal Influences

A.   Both of these are signs of the common cross, the cross of evolution and the cross of the crucified Christ. But both Sagittarius and Pisces share a very powerful sixth Ray which reorients the materially preoccupied spirit from its involvement in every day dualistic living towards the life of the soul.

In both signs there is a pronounced aspiration and devotion and idealism, though it is more fiery in Sagittarius and more watery in Pisces - more aggressive and assertive in Sagittarius, more receptive and open in Pisces.

B.   Both signs are oriented towards the other world. Both signs have elevation and direct the consciousness towards the consideration of the ideal. There is a heavenward orientation for both.

Sagittarius is liable to think that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence and a more ideal world exists in the higher realms. And Pisces with its world weariness demands release from ordinary matter, from ordinary material conditions. And heaven or devachan represents just such a release. Interestingly when considering the Sagittarian relation to the heaven worlds in the Native American tradition, heaven is called the happy hunting ground. So there is a clear metaphysical orientation beyond the physical in both cases.

C.   Both of these signs are closely related to the Christian tradition, suffused as it is by the sixth Ray.

Sagittarius is related to Ecclesiasticism and the structure of the church. Although the church hierarchy demands the introduction of Capricorn to fully describe it. Sagittarius is the individual pilgrim, the seeker after salvation and Pisces is the salvation that is sought. That's why on P. 333 of Esoteric Astrology , we read keynote, "Sagittarius the disciple becomes the saviour in Pisces."

If Ecclesiasticism is related to Sagittarius, then the various monastic orders are related to Pisces. Christianity has been a religion in which the vows of poverty have been emphasized in sharp contrast to the attitude of the Roman church. The church hierarchy is more Sagittarian in nature though not without Capricorn and interestingly, it is related to the two astrological signs of Italy where it had its foundation, namely Leo and Sagittarius. Leo in a certain respect represents the position of the Pope at the center of the Hierarchy or at the peak of the Hierarchy. Closer to the Christian ideal perhaps is the attitude of Pisces which is exemplified by St. Francis and others who were truer to the intentions of the Christ.

D.   Christianity also is based upon an attitude of longing for a better world and for release from this veil of tears so typified by the Scorpio experience. Longing is a product of the astral body and with the astral body both Sagittarius and Pisces are closely related.

Each one of them is closely associated with the solar plexus center. Longing is always for that which is not present. It is a stretching across between the actual condition and that which may be.

Both of these signs can produce powerful emotional orientations and can intensify the desire nature for that which is not possessed.

A higher version of these two signs is found in Sagittarian theology and Piscean realization. The presence of God which the mystic longs for is appreciated by the higher type of Piscean. There is no where to go and this the Sagittarian could well remember, for God is seen as omnipresent and all pervading.

These signs are active also in the science of telepathy for Sagittarius via the ajna center produces the power to send thought, to direct thought to its target. And Pisces because of its general responsiveness makes the ideal receiver. This is not to say that Sagittarians do not receive and Pisces do not send, for the arrow of aspiration shot forth by the aspiring Sagittarian will often return as the arrow of intuition and to the Piscean sending and receiving may indeed by the same thing, for the sense of space is obliterated by certain Piscean realizations of the all pervading presence of God.

E.      Although these two signs have great differences as indicated by their square relationship on the common cross, they do participate in the process of lifting the sights of those nailed upon that cross to a higher state of being.

They are filled with hope and expectation, longing and desire. A reaching for a higher and a better world. The Sagittarian may go forth to acquire that world and the Piscean may anticipate that that higher world will come to him. But in both cases, the condition of the physical world is seen to be less than ideal.
