Continuing the discussion of the third eye. 2. It is the controlling factor of the magical work. 3. It has a destructive aspect. in each of the subtle bodies in the three worlds there is a corresponding point of focus, and the centre between the eyebrows is but the physical counterpart (for etheric matter is physical) of inner correspondences. Through this point of focus the soul looks out upon, or contemplates the mental plane. It is this third work of the soul that is touched upon here, the destructive work of getting rid of the old forms. The seeing of the light within all forms through the agency of the third eye. The attractive force in the spiritual eye. The aspect of destruction is the correspondence to the monad or will aspect. The third eye opens as the result of conscious development, right alignment and the inflow of soul life. The elemental of earth, who is the sum total of the many lives which form the physical body, is controlled. The elemental of the astral or body of water undergoes a similar activity. An analogous process goes forward in the mental body. “The eye through light awakens into life the needed modes of Being.” The elemental of the air. It is through the intense focusing of intention in the head and the turning of the attention through the third eye towards the centre to be used that the force finds its correct outlet.

the key to the situation depicted in the rule lies in the word contemplation found in the preceding one. Let us therefore study that word. To contemplate involves steady vision, one-pointedly directed towards a specific objective. The soul or solar angel might be regarded as gazing in three directions. 1. Towards the Light Supernal. 2. Over the kingdom wherein the solar Angel reigns supreme, over the world of souls. The development of the buddhic or wisdom-love aspect in the solar Angel demonstrates his fitness for further progression in the awareness of the state of pure Being. 3. The third direction in which the soul looks and wherein he exercises the faculty of contemplative vision is towards his reflection in the three worlds. There is an interesting relation between these three “directions of contemplation” and the awakening in the three major centres. The centre between the eyebrows, commonly called the third eye has a unique and peculiar function. Just as the physical eye came into being in response to the light of the sun so the spiritual eye equally comes into being in response to the light of the spiritual sun. This is the eye of Shiva. By means of the third eye the soul accomplishes three activities: 1. It is the eye of vision. It opens up the world of radiance.

4. Meditation. I have placed it fourth upon the list, for meditation is dangerous and unprofitable to the man who enters upon it without the basis of a good character and of clean living. 5. Study of the centres. This we are now beginning. All the work done by students must be done entirely in the head and from the head. 6. Breathing Exercises. Little by little as progress is made will the needed instruction be imparted. The effect of breathing exercises is varied: a. There is an oxygenating effect. b. There is the imposition of a peculiar rhythm. c. There is a subtle effect of prana. d. There is the effect upon the centres. Let no one doubt the effect of breathing exercises upon the vital body. 7. Learning the technique of the Will. 8. The development of the power to employ time. 9. The arousing of the Kundalini fire. And what shall I say about the last three requirements? Nothing much, for the time is not yet ripe for their correct understanding.

The five centres with their forty-eight petals are synthesised therefore into the two-petalled lotus. The numbers of the petals. Beginning the section: THE AWAKENING OF THE CENTRES. How can this awakening and co-ordination be brought about? We will deal briefly with each of these nine points. Do you appreciate the fact that if you were making full use of each piece of information given, you would be standing ere now before the Portal of Initiation? 1. Character building. Each of us enters life with a certain equipment—the product of past lives of endeavour and of experience. The day comes, however, when the soul awakens to the need of dominating the situation and of asserting its own authority. The whole of this teaching can be summed up in two words: Vice and Virtue. Vice is the energy of the sheaths. Virtue is the calling in of new energies and of a new vibratory rhythm so that the soul becomes the positive controlling factor. 2. Right Motive. The Master of the Wisdom, we are told, is the “rare efflorescence of a generation of enquirers.” What is the motive governing my aspiration and my endeavour? The development of right motive is a progressive effort. The man comes to know himself as naught but a channel through which spiritual agencies can work. 3. Service. From service to an individual as an expression of love, to the family, or to the nation, there grows service to a member of the Hierarchy, to a Master’s group and thence service to humanity.

3. That of active intelligence, or the energy which animates the form aspect. Every human being in the course of time works his way back on the Path of Return to one of the three major rays. The first centre which the aspirant seeks consciously to energise and on which he concentrates during the early stages of his novitiate, is the heart centre. None of these unfoldments can ever be approached from the standpoint of complete static passivity. The problem with many aspirants today is that of the solar plexus, for it is wide open, actively functioning and almost fully awakened. As the heart centre is awakened and the throat centre swings into creative work, a definite relation is set up and there is an interplay of energy between the two. This responsive activity and inter-action brings about two results. First, the light in the head makes its appearance. Secondly, the centre between the eyebrows also begins to make its presence felt. The word ‘petal’ only symbolises an expression of force and its apparent effect in matter.

When the energies of the sacral centre are sublimated, re-oriented and carried up to the throat centre, then the aspirant becomes a conscious creative force in the higher worlds. When the energies of the solar plexus are equally transmuted and re-oriented, then they are carried to the heart centre. Then an activity transpires in the head centre. 2. The second fact to bear in mind is that as these changes and re-orientations take place, the disciple begins to awaken psychologically to new states of consciousness. Energy may pour into the force centres, but because there is no directing intelligence it will run riot. The average student starts with the knowledge that he has centres, and with a desire for purity of character. It is not possible for the aspirant to work with and utilise all these seven types of energy intelligently. 1. That of Will, strength or power, through the medium of the head centre. 2. That of Love-Wisdom, through the medium of the heart centre. The life of the solar plexus centre becomes subordinated to that of the heart.

The Master sounds out a note and waits to see if the man recognises his own group note. Beginning the section: HEART, THROAT AND EYE. The heart centre, the throat centre, and the centre between the eyes. I am assuming in the student an elementary knowledge of the vital body and of its force centres. Let us, for the sake of clarity, list these lotuses with their petal numbers, and their location.
1. The base of the spine 4 petals.
2. The sacral centre 6 petals.
3. The solar plexus centre 10 petals.
Diaphragm.
4. Heart centre 12 petals.
5. Throat centre 16 petals.
6. Centre between the eyebrows 2 petals.
7. Head centre 1000 petals.
It is easy to generalise. It is difficult to realise. The three centres below the diaphragm require to be re-organised, re-oriented, and to be brought from a state of positivity into that of negativity. Equally, the four centres above the diaphragm must be awakened and brought from a state of negativity into that of positivity. This has to be brought about in two ways. First, by the transference of the positive energy of the lower centres into that of the higher, and secondly by the awakening of the head centre by the demonstration of the activity of the will. Abrupt end of recording at 35 minutes.

Continuing the discussion of the light in the head. The Dweller on the Threshold. The first thing of which the aspirant becomes aware is that which he knows to be undesirable and the revelation of his own unworthiness and limitations. d. Finally, the light in the head is indicative of the finding of the Path. “The path of the just is as a shining Light.” The next point that a Master has to consider before admitting a man into His group is whether or no such a step is karmically possible. There are three main factors to be considered. First, are there such karmic obligations in a man’s present life as would render it impossible for him to function as a disciple? When a man is a disciple he is one because he can be used for working out the plan of the Hierarchy. A Master also studies the condition of an aspirant’s physical body and of the subtler bodies. A chela is subjected constantly to the play of force coming to him from three main sources: 1. His own ego, 2. His Master, 3. The group of co-disciples. Another factor that an adept has to consider is whether there are in incarnation those chelas with whom a man has to work and who are karmically linked to him. The third factor is that of service. True service is the spontaneous outflow of a loving heart and an intelligent mind.

Continuing the discussion of the development of seers. Inspiration originates on the higher levels. Inspiration may involve telepathy, for the person inspiring may do three things: a. He may use the brain of the appointed channel, throwing thoughts into it. b. He may occupy his disciple’s body. c. A third method is one of a temporary fusing. 4. They write what they see. The ability to read in the astral light. In all these cases that I have cited error may creep in owing to physical limitation and the handicap of words. Later two new methods will be employed. Precipitated writing. Later will come the power to materialize thought-forms. “Know us for sane and balanced men who teach as we taught on earth, not flattering our pupils but disciplining them.” Inquiry about the Master is more interesting than inquiry about the needed qualifications for discipleship. 1. The Master looks for the light in the head. 2. He investigates the karma of the aspirant. 3. He notes his service in the world. The light in the head, when present, is indicative of: a. The functioning to a greater or less extent of the pineal gland. b. The aligning of the man on the physical plane with his ego. c. The downflow of force via the sutratma, magnetic cord, or thread from the soul to the brain via the mind body.

Each generation now should produce its seers. Seek pre-eminently to be dependable instruments, unswayed by passing storms. Some people learn at night and regularly bring over into their physical brain consciousness the facts they need to know. The true transmitters from the higher egoic levels to the physical plane proceed in one or other of the following ways: 1. They write from personal knowledge. 2. They write because they are inspired. They can tap thought currents that have been set in motion by that great band of Contemplators, called Nirmanakayas. 3. They write because of the development of the inner hearing. This form of work might be divided into three methods: There is first the higher clairaudience. Secondly, we have telepathic communication. a .Direct from Master to pupil; b. From Master or disciple to the ego and thence to the personality, via the atomic sub-planes. c. From ego to ego via the causal body. Thirdly, we have inspiration. Mediumship is dangerous.

The Six Stages of Discipleship. 1. The stage wherein a disciple is contacted by the Master through another chela. 2. The stage wherein a higher disciple directs the chela from the egoic level. 3. The stage wherein, according to necessity, the Master contacts the chela. 4. The stage wherein the disciple is taught how (in emergencies) to attract the Master’s attention. 5. The stage wherein he is permitted to know the method whereby he may set up a vibration and a call which will entitle him to an interview with the Master. 6. The stage wherein the disciple can get his Master’s ear at any time. There is a later stage of a still closer identification. To be admitted to the privilege of being an outpost of His consciousness requires an unselfishness and a self-surrender for which few are prepared. Those who are in any way advanced in evolution are having that evolution hastened as never before. Certain factors and methods which should be borne in mind in connection with inspirational writing. Some transmitters work entirely on astral levels. Some work only on mental levels.

How a Master lets an accepted disciple become aware that he is accepted. The man goes forward blindly. He hopes, but he does not know. Suddenly one day he sees the One Who has for so long seen him. This may come in two ways: in full waking consciousness or by the registering of the interview during the hours of sleep. 1. The event is recognised as fact past all controversy. 2. There is recognised an inhibition on the disciple’s part to mention the happening to any one. 3. Certain factors, governing the Master’s relation to the disciple, are gradually recognised. a. He recognises that his points of contact with his Master are governed by group emergency. His Master works with his soul. b. He finds that it is he who shuts the door in the majority of cases. c. He finds that one of the first things he has to do is to learn to discriminate between: His own soul’s vibration, The vibration of the group of disciples with whom he is associated, and The vibration of the Master. It is a safe rule for aspirants to assume when they contact a high vibration and stimulus, that it is their own soul contacting them, the Master in the heart. d. He finds also that it is not the habit of the Masters to flatter. e. The disciple soon finds also that the Masters are not easily accessible. The aim of every high disciple is to carry out his work and be en rapport with the spiritual force centre which is his group without interviews and phenomenal contacts. f. He finds also that the relationship between Master and disciple is governed by law.

The main objective is to become aware of the soul, to cultivate soul consciousness, and to learn to live and work as souls. He enters into voluntary and intelligent control of his instrument. Only as the man becomes intuitive does he become of use in a Master’s group. A great deal of training is given to a probationer without his really recognising it consciously. It is in the mental world that the Masters are first contacted. The time has come when the Light in the head is not only present but can be somewhat used. The advisability of admitting an aspirant within the group aura. He recognizes in himself three things: Increased mental activity, Increased responsiveness to ideas, and Increased psychic sensitiveness. The aspirant has to grow in all parts of his nature, but until he can function as the soul, the lower powers must be quiescent. The infallible knowledge of the intuition, and the illumination of the principle of Light.

There are lines of thought which draw forth from the emotional body a reaction of a poisonous nature. As yet, though many desire, few think. In all systems of true occult training, the emphasis is laid on right thinking, loving desire, and pure, clean living. Just as long as he can contemplate and hold steady, so will his creation fulfill his intention and act as his agent. “Heart, throat, and eye.” There is not as yet a very large body of disciples in incarnation at this time. There should be forming a group in which an intellectual understanding of this mechanism of heart, throat, and eye, will be found. The disciple becomes aware of capacities and powers which are not as yet intelligently under his control. He simply has to wait and to bring his mind to bear upon the purifying of his vehicles and the elimination of all that he recognises as liable to distort his vision. The unfoldment of astral vision and hearing will be entirely ruled out. His aim is to include the higher.

We have been dealing with the processes of creation as they concern: 1. The Creator of a solar system or a planetary scheme. 2. The Ego, as it creates its body of manifestation. 3. Man, as he creates those thought-forms by which he expresses himself. The objective form has been the result of meditation on the part of the creating agency. This fifth rule touches upon three factors: 1. The condition of the waters. 2. The safety of the one who thus creates. 3. Steady contemplation. These teachings are intended to be practical. The process of creating thought-forms is part of the work done by every aspirant in the daily meditation process. As egos, preparing to take human bodies, are deeply engaged in meditation work, it is highly improbable that they can be reached by the ordinary medium in the ordinary seance. Hindrances to the potency of the work. If a thought-form is sent forth into the emotional world to gather to itself a body of desire and is immersed in a “condition of the waters” which can best be described as purely selfish, it is lost. The “condition of the waters.” Their “skill in action” is lost, because they are tied to the desired result and so their labour produces nothing. There are three qualities predominating in the planetary form—fear, expectancy and a climaxing desire (in the human family) for material possession. Desire for material possession must be superseded by aspiration for those possessions which are the joy of the soul—wisdom, love and power to serve. People are frequently slain (in the occult and therefore in the more important sense) by their own thought-forms. This they do in two ways: 1. By growing so potent on the mental plane that the man falls a victim to the thing he has created. 2. By multiplying so fast that the mental aura of the man becomes like unto a thick and dense cloud.

Content for A Treatise on White Magic, Video Commentary, Program 35, Rule 4.7, Continuing Rule Four, THE CREATIVE WORK OF SOUND. 1 hr: pages 148-153.

We have the following stages: 1. The integration of the form through the use of a. Sound, b. Light, c. Vibration. 2. The development of a response apparatus for use in the phenomenal world. 3. The eventual turning away from the phenomenal world, and the gradual use of the subtler response apparatus. 4. The response apparatus of the soul is re-oriented. 5. The turning away from the kingdom of the world to the kingdom of the soul becomes an esoteric habit. Beginning the section: THE SCIENCE OF THE BREATH. “The man breathes deeply.” The science of pranayama. Inhalation, retention of the breath, and exhalation. He draws the very breath of life from the soul. Next we read “he concentrates his forces.” Here we have the stage indicated which can be called retention of the breath. This is the stage of contemplation, that “lull between two activities.” This moment of retention, when properly carried forward, produces an interlude of intense concentration. Then comes the process of exhalation. We read in Rule IV “he drives the thought-form from him.” That aspect of the plan which he has appreciated in contemplation, and that part of the general purpose of the Hierarchy in which his soul feels called upon to co-operate is breathed forth simultaneously, via the mind into the brain. In this science of “breathing deeply” we have the whole process of creative work and of the evolutionary unfoldment of God in nature covered. The science of the physical breath is the least important aspect. This Rule warrants the closest consideration and study. Blind unquestioning obedience is never asked. The love and wisdom and understanding of the watching Elder Brothers are back of every aspiring Son of God, e’en though apparently (and wisely) he is left to wrestle through to the light in the strength of his own omnipotent soul.

“It is the All, the Container of the Universe, the persistent centre of the Spheres, the One.” The soul is to be known as light, as the revealer, whilst the Spirit aspect will later be recognized as sound. Vibration, the effect of divine activity, is two-fold. There is the first effect in which the vibration produces response in matter. The dweller in the form passes through the following stages: 1. Vibration is registered. 2. This effect is noted, but not understood. 3. The environment begins to interest the man and he regards it as desirable. 4. Later, the man begins to turn a deaf ear and an un-seeing eye upon the familiar phenomenal world of desire. 5. Later, on the Path of Probation and of Discipleship, this subtler vibratory activity exerts an increasing allure. 6. Little by little, the disciple builds a new subtler response apparatus. When this stage is reached there ensues a steady turning away from vibratory contact with the outer worlds of form, and an atrophying of desire in that direction. All seems arid and undesirable. All “proceedeth under the law and naught can hinder the work from going forward.” All that is lacking is the developed spiritual body which is equipped to respond to the vibration of the inner spiritual world. It exists in embryo.

The sound is only truly potent when the disciple has learnt to subordinate the lesser sounds. The “Voice that speaketh in the stillness.” “The chief agency by which Nature’s wheel is moved in a phenomenal direction is sound.” “The Great Singer built the worlds, and the Universe is His Song.” Sound as the highest agent used by man. The purpose of all speech is to clothe thought and thus make our thoughts available for others. “You must attain to knowledge, ere you can attain to speech.” Wrong speech separates. “Through meditation we shall rectify the mistakes of wrong speech.” Light. Light is known by what is revealed. the significance of the third word, vibration, appears. The bringing in the new cycle and the new group of participants. They look to see who can struggle and contend for principle with personalities, and yet keep the link of love intact. The Great Ones look to see the faculty of pliability and adaptability working out. They look for an enlarged channel from the soul to the physical brain, via the mind. The Masters must not be sought because a man seeks capacity. They will be found when a man has capacity. OM sounded forth, with intent thought behind it, acts as a disturber, a loosener of the coarse matter of the body of thought, of emotion, and of the physical body. A disciple is available for work and can be utilized actively in the needed places of the earth. The magical work of the Hierarchy. The main work of a disciple on the mental plane. Be receptive to the mind of the Master. Cultivate a right intuitive understanding of the thoughts sent him by the Master. Embody the ideas received in such form as will be suitable for those he is engaged in helping. Make his thought form active.

They impress the plan. If that mind is unstable or oversatisfied, if it is filled with pride, with despair, or with self-depreciation, the vision does not come through with clarity of outline. Much work done by many is the result of over-zealousness and is not a carrying forward of the Master’s work. Even the Great Ones Themselves have to lay Their plans largely allowing for the lack of perception of those on the physical plane through whom They have to work. This point is indicative of the success of the evolutionary process and not of its failure. Realization of a. The reality of the unseen worlds. b. The terrific power of thought. c. The need for scientific knowledge on these two matters. Certain dangers which aspirants must watch as they seek to be of use. The problem to be solved by all who are seeking to co-operate with the Great White Lodge has four objects in view. In the working out of the plan there is also the working out of karma. The preparing of an instrument for service in the inauguration of the New Age during the next two hundred years. “The words of Reconstruction.” The development of the intuition and discrimination of the disciples in the world. Present day troubles are largely due to the lack of intuitive perception in the past. Compromise has been permitted and in the occult world compromise is forbidden.

Learn to proceed with stability and caution, and with the needed discipline in the magical work. Do you feel you have reached the stage wherein you can: a. Eliminate the meditation form as you now have it. b. Enter with relative facility into the state of contemplation. c. Recognize the vibration of your own soul. Does the Sacred Word mean anything to you. Are you anxious to proceed in this work because your personality aspires, or because your soul is beginning consciously to utilize its mechanism? Students can side-track their energies in idle speculation as to my identity. These are days, therefore, wherein quietness and confidence must be your strength. Souls are finding themselves and learning dependence upon the inner Ruler. Idealism and the sensing of the plan for humanity have a close relationship. In all great movements you have some thought or aggregation of thoughts cast into the minds of the so-called idealists by the Great White Brotherhood. In this sensing of the plan and its later materialization, human units are involved and men have perforce to be employed. Units for work fall into three groups. One of the primary conditions that a disciple has to cultivate, in order to sense the plan and be used by the Master, is solitude.

Sound, light, vibration, and the form blend and merge, and thus the work is one. Work on the mental plane. Love attracts, but the mind attracts, repels and co-ordinates, so that its potency is inconceivable. The worker in magic and the potent entity wielding these forces must be the soul. Only the soul. The workers in black magic do not have an equal power. The necessity of a correct use of the mind. The word sound is dual. The significance of the AUM or OM. Sounding the OM. When the personal note or sound is established and the inner sound is sensed, there can be definite practise in blending the two.

A disciple of any of the Masters will have his peculiar equipment, and his individual assets and deficiencies. The path of knowledge is that of the occultist and the sage; that of love is that of the mystic and the saint. It is of prime value to know whether the head or the heart method is the objective of any specific life. “Seek not, Oh twice-blessed One, to attain the spiritual essence before the mind absorbs. Not thus is wisdom sought.”

The little evolved cannot comprehend completely the much evolved. As regards the action of those whose point of attainment greatly transcends your own: a. Reserve judgment. b. Realize that all events are brought around by the Brothers with a wise purpose in view. c. Remember also that the Law of Rebirth holds hidden the secret of the present crisis. Principles are to be viewed in the light of eternity; personalities from the standpoint of time. Opposing groups may be quite sincere, but the concrete mind acts in them as a barrier to the free play of the higher vision. A principle is that which embodies some aspect of the truth on which this system of ours is based. A principle, when really fundamental, appeals at once to the intuition and calls out an immediate re-action of assent from the man’s higher Self. Principles are of three kinds: (a) Principles governing the lower personal self, dealing with the actions or active life of that lower self. (b) Principles governing the higher self and dealing with the love or wisdom aspect. The first set of principles is learnt by the man through grasping. The second set of principles is learnt through renunciation and service. (c) Still higher principles are those comprehended by the Spirit. One deals with the life of the man on the physical plane, or in the three worlds, the second with his life on causal levels, and the last with his life after the attainment of the goal of present human endeavour. All these factors and many others produce differences among human beings.

People differ in ray, approach to truth, polarization, status in evolution, astrological sign, and race. The sub-ray on which a man is found largely gives him his coloring for this life. The primary ray of the Monad continues through the aeon. The ray of the ego varies from round to round. The ray of the personality varies from life to life. Similarity of the egoic ray will produce mutual comprehension, and friendship follows. The polarization of the bodies. Polarity indicates the clarity of the channel. The ego takes control with interest only when the man has almost entirely eliminated matter of the seventh, sixth, and fifth sub-planes from his vehicles. The sub-plane a man is on is of importance.

Harmlessness in thought. Harmlessness in emotional reaction. Harmlessness in act. There is no obligation to obey. Follow the dictates of your own soul and the promptings of your higher self. The methods of white magic. First Ray – Spiritual Energy, Second Ray – Magnetic Force, Third Ray – Radiant Glory. The solar plexus express the magnetic force of the matter aspect in man. “The lower light is thrown upward and the greater light illuminates the three; the work of the four proceedeth.” The “cosmic intermediary” is the term given to the etheric body. The dark light of the tiny atoms of which the physical vehicle is constructed. Physical form, vital body, emotional body, and head centre in accord and alignment. The soul light penetrates into the region of the pineal gland; there it produces an irradiation of the ethers of the head. The magnetic power of the light in the head, and the radiant force of the soul produce stimulation. The soul, seated “on the throne between the eyebrows”. Then the work of the four proceeds.

Humanity is macrocosmic in relation to the sub-human states of consciousness. The stimulating of the spiritual aspect, expressing itself as the soul in all forms. Humanity’s function is to transmit and handle force. The bringing of light. Humanity is the planetary light bearer. The transmission of energy. Mankind itself is the world Saviour. The blending of the deva or angel evolution and the human. The steady progress of humanity towards its goal of world service. Study your daily conduct and words and thoughts so as to make them utterly harmless. Forget all past achievements, realize fervour, and concentrate upon the Plan. The capacity to take one’s eyes off the affairs of individual experience, and fasten them on the working out of the purpose for the whole. Practice harmlessness with zest and understanding, for it is (if truly carried out) the destroyer of all limitation. Harmlessness brings about in the life caution in judgment, reticence in speech, ability to refrain from impulsive action, and the demonstration of a non-critical spirit.

Rule Three. Soul Light and Body Light. The rules do not deal primarily with the rules governing man’s development. Light ever signifies two things, energy and its manifestation in form of some kind. This thought form, created by the aspirant, is brought into being by the focussed energies of the soul and the re-oriented forces of the personality. The Voice of the Silence. The purposes and plans with which he may cooperate. “Kill out ambition.” The clear hearing and correct interpretation of the inner voice of the soul. The ancient yoga of Atlantean days. The ida, pingala, and the central channel, the sushumna. He sets in motion mental matter for the building of his thought form. a. He becomes the Word incarnated. b. He sounds the Word within himself. c. He sounds the Word literally on the physical plane. d. Also he carries forward a paralleling activity of a steady visualization of the thought form. This is only truly possible when a steady rapport has been established between the soul and the brain. When these three suns are one, Brahma breaks forth. A lighted world is born.

Continuing the discussion of the hindrances of the concrete mind. Discrimination. Mind and love. Mind separates; love attracts. Every change, in human life, is subject to immutable laws. The emphasis that has been laid in the West upon the material side of things. Secondly, the masses of the people are suffering from suppression and from the effects of inhibition. A right apprehension of the future does not exist. Men deaden the inner voice that bears witness to the life hereafter. The whole secret of success in treading the occult path depends upon an attitude of mind. A fourth hindrance is found in the physical body, which has been built up by the aid of meat and fermented foods and drinks. Beginning the section: THE OVERCOMING OF THE HINDRANCES. a. A realisation that in obedience to the next duty and adherence to the highest known form of truth lies the path of further revelation. b. A realisation that dispassion is the great thing to cultivate. c. A realisation that synthesis is the method whereby comprehension is attained. These rules are only for those whose personality is coordinated and whose minds are gradually being brought under control. The soul’s work in meditation is to make the point of that meditation so positive that the lower mind can be impressed, and so the lower man can be brought into line with the Eternal Plan. The relation between male and female physical bodies. The relation between the astral body and the physical. The relation between the mind and the brain. The relation between the soul and the personality.

The significance of the words, “the lower light is thrown upward.” The etheric body is the next aspect of the world substance to be studied. The etheric body is composed of force currents. The etheric body is vitalized and controlled by thought. Occult study. 1. The Occidental hindrances to correct occult study. 2. How these hindrances may be surmounted. 3. Certain things the aspirant may safely undertake in the equipping of himself for treading the occult path. The comparative newness of the occident. The strong development of the concrete mind. It acts as a dark curtain that shuts out the higher illumination. When the fire of mind burns too fiercely, it forms a current which counteracts the higher downflow. When the three fires meet.

The breath and the form which the breath energises. Most of us are average, are we not? A cyclic response to soul impulse. Much preliminary work will have to be done. Aspirants to this difficult work must watch themselves with infinite care. 1. It is essential that there should be an endeavor to arrive at absolute purity of motive. 2. The ability to enter the silence of the high places will follow next. The inbreathing and outbreathing of the entity of the earth. The silence that comes from the inner calm is the one to cultivate. 3. Remember always that lack of calm in the daily life prevents the teachers on egoic levels from reaching you. 4. Learn to control thought. What is the criterion whereby a man may know which out of several lines of activity is the right line to take? An understanding of one’s place upon the ladder of evolution. Learn through right decision and right use of the mind to solve problems. The intuition reveals not the way ambition can be fed.

Continuing the discussion of the body. The vital body. Causal body. The greater the rate of vibration, eventually measurable, the greater the soul development. Probably the soul links all aspects of the personality. The solar systemic etheric body can be considered a macrocosmic web of life and there are many others rising in hierarchical form. The factor of vitality. The “blood is the life.” Heart, spleen, and the vital pranic center between the shoulder blades. The factor of consciousness operating through the brain. The initiated state. This irradiation is part of the Plan to uplift matter which was conditioned in a previous solar system and which is not naturally radiant. There is an inflow and no barriers which cannot be overcome. This tells us how dense physical forms are created—through the power of magnetism, the dense being attracted to the etheric. Within the soul body there are points of condensation of various types of force—perhaps the “Jewel in the Lotus” and the Petal Structure. The etheric the intermediary between the purely dense body and the purely subtle body. The need for careful study.

Continuing the discussion of the body. The functions of the vital body. These forms all pour their energy through the vital body. The archetype of the form is found in the vital body and then shapes the form accordingly, or attracts densest matter onto or into an etheric scaffolding—an etheric form. There are different types of magnetism only dense physical matter of certain vibratory rates are drawn towards certain etheric archetypes. We are talking about the quality of various dense physical forms. The vital body holds all dense physical forms together in an integrated state. Without the vital body there would be no coherence in dense physical matter. The nadis constitute the subjective nervous system. The nadis sustain the outer nervous system. The nadis of the etheric body are involved in both correlation and integration of the outer form. All organs interrelated by the nervous system. Chakras in the etheric body of the Planetary Logos or any Planetary Logos. This is about the UNITY of the solar systemic of cosmic etheric body. In the etheric body ruled in part for us by Aquarius, we have Diversity in Unity or Unity in Diversity, which is one of the major themes in Aquarius. We have the One and the Many and the Many and the One. Every type of form with its particular type of atoms is sensitive. This section is about the energies and forces we draw down (or up) and which affect our anchored life in the dense physical vehicle primarily, our life in density. SOURCES from which energy and force enters the human energy system. The lower Kingdoms of Nature do not receive this force but one wonders in the case of certain high domestic animals, whether something which later will originate the causal body at individualization will not be tapped. Emotions in the animal kingdom. Web of life be highly developed to reach out into the solar system for such influences—the different planets can also be indicated here; to these we are responsive. We do not YET have the planetary horoscope. The etheric body is multiply responsive, and to some very distant and for us subtle sources. Anima Mundi the Soul of Matter. Here the Anima Mundi is being called the “Universal Soul” and perhaps is being equated with the Oversoul. The etheric body is the symbol of the soul which links spirit with matter. The Planetary Anima Mundi. The etheric body too is being presented as a mediating principle. We of the human family are in a very fourth ray position, but ultimately a second ray position. For every degree of evolution in the human kingdom there is a corresponding degree in the angel kingdom or deva kingdom. The “Seven Spirits Before the Throne.” This section might hold a hint as to the nature of the Creative Hierarchies to be found in the chart on pages 34-35 of Esoteric Astrology. One wonders also about the Three Kingdoms above the Human kingdom, namely the Kingdom of Souls, the Kingdom of Planetary Lives, and the Kingdom of Solar Lives. Solar systemic lives. We as human beings are working out not only planetary karma but also solar systemic karma. We as souls are an “incarnated energy.” This is the period of human history in which the Middle Principle is being revealed. No man commeth to the Father except through me. The machine is the outer objective man. Latent fire and radiatory fire.

Continuing the discussion of the soul. Soul as a triplicity. Because the soul represents the second aspect of divinity spiritual love is the primary aspect expressing through soul. Also called Wisdom and Activity. Wisdom demands the presence of intelligence and knowledge. Love-wisdom enhances rapport. Higher energies. The light in the head is a point of soul light. The influence of the spiritual will. A steady union requires the mind and its irradiation with light from the soul. The Monad is more than the Will—the very center of the Monad is the presence of Pure Being. The limitation of soul life is superseded, and much greater access to Oneness is attained. The scope of monadic consciousness or awareness. The Monad is that which finds its home within the Sun. The Monad when fully attained, i.e., when the Pilgrim has returned from the Great Pilgrimage, offers insight into solar systemic consciousness, which is the Consciousness of the Solar Logos. Triadal knowledge—the spiritual triad being the true Soul or Ego. “The great need at this time is for experts in the life of the soul.” Beginning with discussion of the body, the phenomenal experience. The body functioning in correct rhythm. All parts are through the nervous system, really in touch with each other. Even the smaller parts have their designated function. We want to think organically and holistically. Recognizing the enumeration of man is important. When an aspect of the greater organism is out of alignment or control, the rest of the organism suffers. Animated by inherent multiplicity… animated by the overshadowing Unity—the soul, the spiritual triad and eventually the Monad. We must search for essential structures. The strongest esoteric significances are found in relation to these ten in the head. We must understand these analogies, and they must make sense to us.

Continuing the discussion of the soul. Driven by its soul towards something higher and better. Different emanations are held in differing relationships, and these relationships determine the distinctive characteristics and differing forms. Soul is the producer of distinctive quality. The etheric body is like the soul of matter. As we rise through the Kingdoms of Souls and the Kingdom of Planetary Lives, etc. Soul is Geometrizer, and every quality has its own geometry. Geometry is relationship in apparent space. Is the Oversoul the same as the Anima Mundi—the usual connotation is that the Anima Mundi is associated with non self-conscious forms of life. God Geometrizes and the many Archetypes which are part of the Divine Purpose are revealed at the end of the evolutionary period. From the World of Divine Purpose comes the Great Forms which will manifest as a reflection in the Mosaic Worlds. The interplay between spirit and matter is the basis of consciousness. There is no such thing as a form which in some way does not register contact. Without soul we would have non-responsiveness amongst the various existences in the Universe. Soul is that which allows ‘touch’—it is the great Relational Factor holding all things in responsive relationship. Is the soul perception itself? It is the method by which the Father Aspect perceives, or the Perception characteristic of the Father Aspect. The Responsive Factor within all forms. It is an orienting factor which produces many different kinds of relationship with the environment. The Observer, the onlooker, the perceiver, the actor. Feeling, touching, responding. Changing according to touch. The “him” is the sentient factor in the middle. Soul is that which registers the presence of various hitherto unregistered factors within the environment. We must grow through the coming to light in the field of consciousness of the previously unregistered factors. We are Universal Logos on its own plane even now and also the Universal Logos in multiple, variegated extension. The limitations of form have to do with circumscribed Self-registration, the Self as the Universal Logos. The scope of the form is related to emanative division—or division and circumscription through the progressive process of emanation. Differentiations of the soul nature in Universe. Depending on the level of vibratory immersion, so will the Universal Soul manifest. We are dealing with the great states of awareness in Universe which means the great states of Soul. The Great Informing Life of the Kingdom. These specific natures are caused by intelligent sensitivity. Not all qualities are to be found in any particular form, but a limited number, arranged geometrically in a certain manner. A center is identified and awareness of that center is sustained in the consciousness of the entity at this particular level. There is a tending towards human consciousness in all the other lower kingdoms. These instincts and tendencies compel attention. Students of the Ageless Wisdom are attempting to emerge out of the strictly human state. They have already emerged from the more animal state which is responsive to the animal form, primarily. Group consciousness is our objective at this time. We move from the individual to the group. Master DK worked with a group of students, which was sub-hierarchical but definitely related to the entirety of Hierarchy. Always more and more is included in what we are told we call the “group life.” Great distinctions exist between the groups in-Universe. The many perceptions are Really One Perception of a Great Inclusive Life. One Great Being perceiving through the apparently differentiating perceivers. We have a hierarchy of soul expression. Mostly we are very involved in the Third Aspect of Divinity. So we will soon deal with the soul as a Triplicity.

Spirit, Life, Energy. Amazing call to humility, that “adjusted sense of right proportion.” We can propose the possibility and also say “thus have I heard” or “according to the Tibetan” or the “Teaching.” DK calls Himself an aspirant. Thousands of years, as He was a Greek Scholar and also a Buddhist Scholar. All of these are caveats concerning the extent of the knowledge we may gather from our reading of the Tibetan and meditation upon His words. The sane way of viewing our progress. This breathing forth is the dynamic associated with emanation, a very important process. Seven monadic types are to be found. The Seven Rays are called “the Seven Rays of Light.” Meaning is associated with angle of vision. We are still too immersed in distinction, necessarily so. The word “activity” pertains to the third ray. The Soul, the Mediator or Middle Principle. Anima Mundi, the “Soul of the World.” Sensitivity without self-consciousness. The type of distinctions of which He is speaking is quality. It determines the relationships which evidence themselves as differentiation. Soul carries distinction. The form-causitive nature of the etheric body must be investigated, and we are just now beginning to do this. Life is One and Essentially Non-Differentiatable but when the factor of soul enters, differentiation enters as well. Learn to see Sameness and Differentiation simultaneously—Oneness and Soul will then be understood. Contacting the “Presence of God.” St. Paul understood “occult silence.” Occultist, Uranus, plus the mystic, Neptune. Does it require soul in order to relate the Spirit and Matter aspects? Does it require consciousness to differentiate Spirit-Matter into Spirit and Matter? The Creation of Matter (as distinctly objective) may be an Act of Self-Observation. Whenever we have the word “soul” we must think also of the word “relation”—Soul is the “middle principle.” The Systemic Law called the “Law of Cohesion” all the various factors in-Universe are held in coherency. Three ray aspects of soul.

Spirit and Being. The sixth initiation gives full consciousness of the Monad. The sixth plane is the plane of the Monad, but what about the logoic plane? The God of our planet, the Planetary Logos. Beyond the solar system are found the vibrations of Sirius and even of the Cosmic Logos which includes our Solar Logos and the Logos of Sirius. There are sensitive and insensitive brains, and the awareness of the mind through the brain is constantly expanding. Desirable alignment which we call soul—mind—brain. The spirit has content of knowledges, forces and is the source of inspirations. The spirit is not blank and passive. Spirit is the wielder of the soul-instrument. Soul affects the brain via the mind. It is limited perception which creates the apparently separated individual. It is the influence of the Spirit or Monad which renders human consciousness planetary. The Planetary Logos is in this context the One. Basically we are discussing realization of the Solar Logos and its Oneness with regard to the entire solar system. Duality is reflexively perceived. In the Aquarian Age we will have a scientific religion; the New World Religion. It is even more difficult to solve the question of Purpose. If we do not know the answers to these questions then perhaps we have not achieved true intuition. Their consciousness is not trapped in the dynamics of the form. Life and energy are differentiated. The understanding of the microcosm leads to the understanding of the macrocosm. The Unknown God. Breath is fire, breath is life. The second ray Law of Cohesion is involved, but the sustaining of the integrated Life of the Organism is a first ray factor. The Breath of Life holds organisms in coherence. The term “Universe” is applied to a solar system and NOT the Grand Entirety. Will, purpose, basic incentive, life principle, spirit. Continuity of presence. The first ray aspect of the Life Principle. Remember the trinity of Life, Quality and Appearance. Being is non-differentiable. DK is speaking as a trained esoteric psychologist. The soul is both unifying and differentiating. The heart has a dual function as the recipient of the presence and energy of both the soul and the Spirit. The spleen vitalizes the solid mechanism. The intuition reveals the all-pervading One.

Triplicities. The mind of man is not yet the higher mind and not yet the abstract mind. Concretions with which the average mind is accustomed to deal. Our languages have to be enriched and rendered more subtle and pliable. Moving from concretions, to subtleties to spiritual subtleties which are extremely intangible. Life, God, Being, the Substratum, the All-Pervading Factor. The tendency of man is to concretize the abstract, and thus lose much of the nature of that which is abstract. He is justifying the use of Triplicities to describe God, even though even Trinity minimizes God’s nature. DK is telling us that man is divine. Identify yourself as a spirit at-one with God the Spirit. The Truth shall set you free. True Freedom is found in identification as God. Different planes evidence different intensities of God. Individualization; man is no longer animal man. Spirit, Life, Energy. Spirit and Life and Being are largely equivalent. Here the second and third aspects are mentioned as derivative from Spirit. The form loses its coherence and its ability to move as a unit; disintegration sets in when Life and Spirit are withdrawn. The form, soul and spirit are three aspects of the One Breath. They are trapped within their attention to the personality. It is separative though unitive—complete homogeneous Oneness is not yet known. So many of us think as humanity thinks and are subject to the limitations of such thought. We must move beyond the Unity of the Soul into the Oneness of the Spirit and Life. The reward for so doing is identificatory participation in and as all things (i.e., all perceptions. What is to be grasped by the consciousness is variable according to the elevation of that consciousness. The well-trained immediately inferior vehicle or center is used to understand the immediately superior center or vehicle. We need humility in our reading of occult instruction. Humility is not so readily found among beginners… which really we are. Does Spirit have a rate of vibration? Well, NOT if Spirit is Pure Being, but then how the word Spirit is used appears to be less than Pure Being. This Life may be the Life of the Cosmic Logos or the “One About Whom Naught May Be Said” but on and on and up and up, so to speak. Buddhi is where the Master mostly functions and directs Light in two directions—below and above. The Masters and the Chohans are attempting the ABCs of understanding Spirit and Being.

Discussing terms. Past life fantasies and also future fantasies. We are constantly building upon our experience. Unfoldments in the causal body of humanity as a whole. Gradual building process… no great leaps. The mind and the fifth ray determine what will be accepted as fact. No real examination, but acceptance. In general a fifth ray liability. The personality of humanity is, it is said in some references, on the fifth ray. Intuition as pure reason and straight knowledge. Man’s Three Aspects. A vague idea of what lies ahead. The concrete rightly understood reveals the abstract. Symbols point to states beyond themselves. Energy. Vitality of the body withdraws at death. The energy also uses the heart, which is the seat of Life. Triple energy, with three rays. The nervous system. The network of nerves is very complex. Sensitive to the inner workings of his body and bodies. First we are fixated upon our own functioning and later our sensitivity responds to the widening environment. The great statement by HPB. He focuses on religion, education and philosophy, but there are other areas to which the triplicity applies. The Thinker, the thought and that which is the means of thought; Subject and Object and that which makes the Subject aware of the Object. Consciousness is That interrelating something. All three aspects persist through an ever increasing range of greater Beings. We will begin to be aware of the World Soul, as found in every form of life. The inner nervous structure of the mineral kingdom. An interrelationship based upon sensitivity, etheric pervasion of all Kingdoms of Nature. The second ray factor of coherence. Correlating the Anima Mundi with a great nervous, sensory system. All Kingdoms of Nature are thus correlated by this macrocosmic nervous system. This soul sensitivity in the Anima Mundi. Dealing with triplicities and their Oneness.

Psychic. In our form nature we have a high presentation of animal soul which is not yet self-consciousness. A self-consciousness center. This type of soul is higher than the animal soul, which is sentient but not self-conscious. The soul on its own plane. The heavens are really beginning on the third sub-plane of the mental plane. The true soul is the true Knower, or Thinker on a higher place than the lower mind and certainly than the astral body. Higher soul powers will be understood and utilized. Unfoldment. The unfoldment of sentiency or sensitivity. A kind of climax within the dense physical body of our Planetary Logos. Knowledge. We accept much from the Tibetan and it is the course of wisdom to do so. Eventually we have to put all knowledge that we accept to the test once our mind is better trained. Meanwhile we reserve judgment. Virgo types should be capable of prolonged concentration which is equivalent to meditation. Knowledge can still be theoretical even through much reasoning has gone towards the verification of that knowledge. Sustained concentration which is meditation will yield understanding in various areas. Occult meditation. Bridging. Theoretical, discriminative and intuitive knowledge. Intuition apprehends that which is NOT man-made. Higher knowingness. Always present aspects of the Deity from which any system gains its manifestation. Preparation for the recognition and utilization of the intuition. Growth of the light-receiving mind and its bridge to direct knowledge or intuition by men. Soul truthfully transcends the higher mind. Every sphere of activity has its own type of omniscience. Intuition leads to omniscience. We will enter the decanate of Aquarius ruled by Mercury. Just try to teach occultism to those who are not ready, or to members of one’s own family. From vision to fact to law.

A book about the control of the astral body. Four postulates. The “Realm of Privation.” SELF-OBJECTIVITY or Self-Objectivity. In this State of Finite Privation, Light reveals all we are in toto. The Universe is bounded by the Self-Perception of the Universal Logos. Revealing what we essentially are. From Light comes all things, all emanations, all particulars, all limitations in Cosmos. Forms are densifications of Light. Second Fundamental of The Secret Doctrine. Including any Universe as a Great Life. Emergence of BEING into Form which is another way of saying Emergence into Light. There is no real need to develop Consciousness except in a state of Self-Perceptual Limitation which only occurs In-Universe. The Big Picture. A Treatise on Cosmic fire. Descent of image through fractalization. This is what the soul sees and how the soul perceives Its own identity. Light brings to consciousness that which is present but undetected. The part merges into the Whole, and eventually realizes Itself to be that Whole Itself. The ULTIMATE ARTICULATED WHOLENESS IS ABSOLUTE INFINITUDE. THE ULTIMATE UNARTICULATED WHOLENESS is the ABSOLUTE. Causative energies and forces. Do you have good conduct? The energies and forces have been conducted from within and are responsible for the kinds of conduct which appears. According to the Purpose so various energies and forces are released, or conducted into the lower worlds and contribute to the conduct of the E/entity in those lower worlds. The Lord of a Kingdom of Nature. Lives and their Goal. Laws. Laws are inevitable and Rules can be followed or not according to choice. A Plan requires steps and stages in Time and Space. Purpose is the same at the beginning as at the end and is like a sustained standing wave. The reason for the Law in relation to a Greater Purpose. We all die. Maybe there are many who do not want to die, but they cannot control or change the Law of Periodicity which demands the cyclic death of the form. Man is the Greater Life and the Greater Issues are eventually seen as his issues. The sense of helplessness changes to gratitude. He becomes a co-operator with the Divine Plan.

Fifteen Rules for Magic. Expand upon the nature of the soul. The self in this case is a spiritual being… the Observer in one of its guises. The inner worlds are drawing nearer. When we seek powers prematurely and for their own sake we go astray. Remove the mystery from that which is apparently mysterious. Open-minded scientists. Improving the microcosm. Disciples and not aspirants. These initiates have knowledge and realization. Working from below—the first causal realm. We can learn a lot about ourselves by studying A Treatise on Cosmic Fire. This is said to be a book on the control of the astral body, but also focuses much on the microcosm. FOUR POSTULATES which we must admit as an hypothesis. I call this Energy or Life the Universal Logos. God is the One, and the One is fundamental to the appearance of all B/beings. Without limitation of consciousness there is no Time and Space. Matter arises from Self-Observation. Matter is an artifact of Consciousness. The arising of Light is due to Self-Observation. Out of the Great Universal Self-Observer arises Consciousness of the capability to Self-Observe. The unification of subject and object will occur when we can truly contemplate. The extension of the sense of identity into that which identified… this is contemplation. A question of when consciousness arises. Consciousness is required to produce the illusion of otherness. I am saying that Self-Observation IS Matter… or produces Matter. The knowingness of all B/beings. Consciousness is all-pervading, and I call this Consciousness by the name “Infuception.” A degree of self-knowledge is needed by all self conscious beings on the Path of Return. As Kant said, “categories of consciousness.” Grounded in limited Self-perception—Self-perception is Matter. There is the Self as the Observer and the Self being observed is Matter. Due to Self-veiling these lesser lives have forgotten What they essentially are. Working in the ‘Realm of Privation.” = Infinitude is deprived of Infinity and become Finitude.
